CONAN #96 COVER?

Iv been re-bagging my original run of Marvel Conan's and I just got to issue #96, it's been years since I really looked at this image and I was just blown away by it.  IMHO It just might be one of the top cover ever done by big John ( which is a bold statement, considering his catalog) I got curious and tried to find any public viewing or sales of this cover and NOTHING came up on the net. I figure this might be a good place to ask if anyone else has seen the original in person or knows of a sale? I was able to find out it was the image used by Johns wife/family for the thank you cards after his death in 2002 in an Alter Ego article done by Roy Thomas. So it may still be in the family? Either way what a stunning piece of art!  To be honest I think this cover might be the best cover in the run, including the Barry Smith issues. ( this was before he was a Windsor ) But King Size Annual #1 would be very close :)

When looking for a piece, calling it the best thing the artist ever did is not helping your bargaining position.  :foryou:   I’ll do you a favor and talk it down a bit from those mythical heights.   I think it’s very nice but it ends there.   Conan and a lion.   Okay.    Nice but on subject matter alone it’s never going to be the best thing he ever did.   You’re welcome. ;) Good luck finding it!

Negotiation tactics:

“Meh can’t pay you that much... it’s mostly Ernie Chan...other wise I’d pay more.”

I don’t know about best range, but it is pretty superior IMO. It has a sense of energy and engagement with the reader I kinda like. The background is a little sparse though. I know he probably didn’t want to make it to busy but I don’t like foreground only images, feel incomplete to me.

It’s definitely the best Conan and a Lion cover I’ve ever seen.

(welcome OP! ;) )

😂 on my first post in this thread, I literally typed Tarzan and a lion, and had to go back and correct it ;)

I get why the OP likes it.   But sometimes we fall in love with aspects of a piece the market doesn’t value, or look past issues the market would have with a piece (that don’t bother us personally).
