Over time you will train your eye if you really want to learn. The only way to do it is by trial and error and looking over hundreds, if not thousands of books. 

I thought I had a pretty good eye for pressable moderns, but I’ve since learned a few things participating in the PGM forum.  I’ve gotten good enough to where the last 48 of 50 moderns I sent to my pressing guy came back graded as 9.8’s.  With his pressing, of course, and sometimes he doesn’t need to press many.  Different story with my older books.  They all benefited from a professional clean/press.  Practice makes perfect...ish. 👍
