Well, this just happened...

Me: Hi, I'd like to ship this item and I'll need it insured for $XXXX.

UPS guy: What is it?

Me: It's a comic book.

UPS guy: *Calls someone on the phone. Hangs up.* I can only send a comic if there's a certificate of authenticity.

Me: Well, it's graded by a company called CGC. They grade, authenticate, and encapsulate collectibles.

UPS guy: Then I'll need to see inside the box to confirm.

Me: *blank stare* Fine. Open it up, as long as you pack it back up again.

UPS guy: *opens box* What is this?

Me: It's a graded comic book.

UPS guy: I need a certificate of some kind...

Me: See that barcode there...

UPS guy: No, I need a signed certificate of authenticity.

Me: *pauses* From who?

UPS guy: I don't know, someone.

Me: Like...Stan Lee?

UPS guy: Is he a comic specialist?

Me: Thank you, this has been fun. I'll head over to FedEx.

what a loser.

You know whst UPS just did to me? I sent a $1200 book with them ,  I paid a signature required signature extra and 2 days later the delivered the package in front door no signature of course.  I dont even want to contact the ebay buyer to ask him if he got the package because he could get bad ideas... So i just gave him positive feedback and i aam for his feedback since thursday but nothing yet...

Don't worry about it.  no news is good news.

Same kind of garbage I put up with when I go into a Subway sandwich shop.

Them:  What can I get for you?

Me:  I'd like a Foot Long on White Steak & Cheese with Pepperjack

Them:  What kind of bread?

Me: White.

Them: Foot Long?

Me:..............Yes.

Them:  What kind of meat would you like?

Me:.........Sigh......I said Steak

Them:  Would you like cheese on it?

Me:.........Y.....E.....S

Them:  What kind?

Me:  I SAID A FOOT LONG ON WHITE STEAK & CHEESE WITH PEPPERJACK WHEN I WALKED IN ! ! !

I think next time I'm just going to walk out......although I have a feeling that's what they'd prefer most people would do.

We had a threate workshop and went back to the hotel.

Jerome and Rachel gave me the list of Subway sandwiches so I went to Subway.

Them: May I serve you?

Me: (I gave my note to them)

Them: (They had done mine [Cold Cut] and Rachel's [Veggie])

Them: (They were doing Jerome's) Uhh, Pepper?

Me: Yes.

Them: Hot pepper?

Me: Did you see the note?

Them: (They seemed concerned and puzzled) Vinegar and Olive oil?

Me: (Loud sigh) Please just follow his order.

Them: (They put everything - Hot pepper, Jalapeno, Chili, Mayo, Mustard, Ketchup, 1000 Island Dressing and much more). Anything else?

Me: No that will be all. (I paid and left)

Back to the hotel room, I gave them.  I sat down by the table and watched Jerome starting to eat his sandwich before Rachel.

Jerome: (Bit and chewed) Hmm, it tastes blank.

Rachel: (Overreacted and puked her first bite) Oh B-stard ! You B-stard! I almost ate the dead animal!!!

Rachel cursed at him for 15 long minutes while I enjoyed my dinner and watching them at the same time.

really?  So USPS or FEd ex is better?

fedex pays quickly but only insures up to a grand or $900.

usps registered can be insured for high dollar value, but they sure make you jump through hoops when you make a claim. my last one for a measly $500 took almost six months.

So I win a model kit from Hakes which they shipped UPS.  No one home so they leave a note that they couldn't deliver because it requires a signature.  Fine, makes perfect sense but then I get an email telling me my package is being delivered to an Auto Parts store and they will email me when it is ready to pick up.  I get my email  and no kidding, go to an Auto Parts store to get my package.  Very bizarre.

I had a Fedex package that I insured for $20k.  Cost me quite a bit $1.60/$100

theres no way that ups insurance will cover a 30k comic book. you need your own policy for that. you might think you're insured cause they charged you, but no way would you have been paid had you made a claim.

fedex's limit on insurance was $900 last time i checked.

try a CIS policy.

UPS lost his inheritance tax ($846K) in UPS envelope - all are the paperwork that got lost through the hub.  UPS offered him $32 refund for the shipping cost.

i can't go to my local Wendy's anymore if there is more than one car at the drive thru ....there is absolutely zero sense of urgency as far as moving the line along...

i imagine they have a hard time getting someone to actually work and show up so if they do get an employee who actually will work and shows up they keep them no matter how incompetent they are

Insurance-wise, USPS is the only logistics option that really has an innate insurance option, but they will require extensive documentation before paying out. Neither UPS nor FedEx should be considered to have meaningful insurance; if you're shipping legitimately valuable items, consider a third party collectibles insurer.

Also, all 3 services, to varying degrees, have been slacking on actually getting signatures on signature required deliveries, citing COVID concerns. It's... a problem, and I don't have a good solution. A lot comes down to the individual drivers right now. Maybe as we return to normalcy...

You should have asked him for a blank piece of paper.....hand wrote a certificate of authenticity......signed it.......and then handed it back to him.

I know that locally, they have some UPS pick up points at certain non-UPS store businesses where they drop off UPS packages that couldn't be just dropped off.

I know a few shops locally did it for a short time but this is the first time I've heard it being done at an auto parts store.
