Grottu
So, the challenge with this one is that the cover is completely detached AND split in two. Interior is in good shape. I picked it up recently for the historical value if nothing else, but am wondering whether it could ever merit a grade above a 1 to 1.8. And is there ever a circumstance where “fixing” the cover and accepting the dreaded purple label makes sense, or is that just crazy? 🤪 Galen130
Randall Ries
That's a .5. The cover is pretty tanned and looks brittle as well. I wouldn't do anything special for the book.
I Am The Answer!
The Answer is: .5 seems about right. I'd leave it as is and enjoy your find.
Primetime
1.0 for me. Eye appeal is much nicer.

Galen130
I'll go 1.0 as well. Comics about first responders are okay in my book. Grottu
1950's war comics
1.0 but would look awesome in a CGC slab FoggyNelson
KCOComics
The best looking 1.0 out there. You could have the cover leaf casted back together and get a conserved label (I think). But I wouldn't. I think it would only hurt the value and if it's encapsulated no one will see if anyway. That books on my want list for sure! Grottu
As a reference point and for comparison purposes only (this isn't mine, just found photo on GoCollect), the condition description here gives me hope there's the chance of a 1.5 -- same defect, cover spine completely split and detached but otherwise presents well...
