speople
Turnaround times Post 75 - 64 days Pre 75 - 134 days What justification takes an extra 70 days to grade? Pre 75 is more than double the time of post 75. A comic is a comic regardless of age, they are all graded according to the same standards (supposedly), GA/SA bump cough cough)). So what's with the increased time?
Doctor Dositheus
I believe they have separate crews of graders working on different eras. Now you could totallly make the argument that the crew working on GA/SA is not big enough but I think we know now what they've been working on. underw0rld
Didn't CGC brag they opened a new building, hired over 70 new people and making them work thousands of hours of overtime yet the TAT is sky rocketing like the National debt. Also with all of these extra employees it is like finding hens teeth to get Graders Notes on why they give a book a 9.0 when it looks like a 9.8 Robert_L

Gaard
I've often thought that this whole tier thing stunk. I can see some kind of distinction based on value, but I could never grasp why there were tiers based on the age of the comic. Should there be a difference (in $ and TAT) between grading a book from 12/74 and one from 1/75?

Should there be a difference (in $ and TAT) between grading a book from 12/74 and one from 1/75? Age and value both sound bonkers to me. Value changes on a whim of the market, and I'd like my first She Hulk issue to be handled with as much care regardless if it's a hot book or not when I sent it. Anyways, aside from the age the tiers are based on the services rendered, which makes the most sense. You're not paying more just because your book is worth more, you are paying more because your book is being graded faster. You can send a $200 book to express or walkthrough if you want it done fast, that's allowed. It's all about the service. Of course, because CGC wants to limit their risks, they do not want to hold onto the pricier books for a long time. So that's why certain valued books have to go through the accelerated services. That's the way I see it. Like you, I don't think there should be any difference based on age. Edited May 11, 2021 by William-James88

The difference you may see comes from the differences in manufacturing. A high grade GA comic may look worse for wear than a modern high grade book since it may have a more egregious manufacturing defect (like a spine chip) that was deemed to not impact the grade. But we see that for moderns too. ASM 361 can have a bunch of manufacturing tears on the first page and a rather unfortunate tear on the cover and still get a 9.6/9.8 while a 9.4 of most other books would look better. Because he's no longer president? “¯\_(ツ)_/¯“ But I don't know. I don't see a GA bump on my GA books, grading looks consistent enough. I wish they had grade bumps, lol. Though I have found examples of screwy grading on books from all eras, including GA (like that Captain America which got a grade bump after CPR even though CGC toe the cover off in the process)

William-James88
1 hour ago, The Ripper said: We already have distinction based on value. Isn't the distinction based on speed of service? We can't say it's primarily based on value since I can also send a $400 book as express just like I can send a $1000 book. In that scenario, both books get the same service for the same price regardless of value. By ignoring the different services, a fallacy is spread where it gives the idea that CGC is charging you more just because your book is more expensive. Like that's the only factor. But it isn't. The only consistent difference between why you would pay more for a different tier is either the year of the book or the turn around time. All it takes is a look at the card forum where people are begging CGC to let them bump up their tiers to avoid the long turn around times. The more valuable the book the more insurance they need and those costs are passed on to you. See, that is wrong. A 400$ sent for express costs the same as a $1000 book. If what you say is correct, then I should get a rebate sending in my $400 through express since they have less insurance costs to pass on to me. It is simpler if we just look at the facts and not stray from them. The reason the tier costs more is due to the faster TAT. That s the only consistent factor once you get past the year. What's wrong with just eliminating the year factor and just focusing on tats? I am ok with minimum tats being enforced on certain value as is the case now.
