Bought A CGC slab for the First Time and It May Be Broken?

So I bought a slab on eBay for the first time. Seller said the case was in mint shape but I can slightly pry open the left side and the right side of the slab has some sort of melted plastic? See the picture to see what I mean. Is that normal? It was graded in 2013.

Typically the 2nd generation slabs are the most fragile but you will mostly see damage at the corners.

Scuffs on the front or back of the case can happen to any slab.

I was able to recoup some money from the post office on all of the slabs pictured below but it is a pain in the rear. You are paying for insurance with priority mail so don't be afraid to file a claim if the post office beats the hell out of your box.

Your corner damage is different than what OP has.  OP's images reflect a normal case that has been through the standard manufacturing process.

That's just how the slabs are.  Nothing out of the ordinary there.

Ok I was just surprised because I looked at a family member's slabs and they are completely sealed (graded in 2014 and 2015 I believe).

Current (3rd) gen slabs are sealed on the sides.

I got an order in a few months ago, and one of the magazine slabs is not completely sealed shut on the sides.  You could slip a postcard through it, into the slab, if you wanted.  I read on another thread that this is normal, and especially important for air circulation so that the book doesn't "stew in its own juices"..?
