Anybody have any early Ninja Turtles art (particulary anything they want to sell)? I haven't seen any available (I've seen some pieces on CAF in galleries, but none available for sale/trade). Thanks! - Keith

I sent you a bunch of information regarding early TMNT art, including what pieces I know are out there (which are few, unfortunately) and where I think the market is presently and is going. I also have two consecutive pages from the Michaelangelo one-shot, and the cover to #3. I'd consider parting with the interior pages if the offer were right.

I`m amazed that there`s ANY TMNT original art available. I mean, it`s not like the guys ever needed the money from selling it. Were they gifts to friends, fans, etc.? Is the consensus that most of the art is still in the hands of Messrs. Eastman & Laird?

Apparently, TMNT comic book art is very hard to come by because almost all of it was bought up by Kevin Eastman for his museum and personal collection.

I remember seeing a website by either Eastman or Laird a few years ago where one of them was selling the entire OA for issue #1 (w/o the cover, I believe) for a MILLION DOLLARS (yes, seriously). It was an extensive website heralding the historic nature of the Turtles and the value of the OA. Does anyone else remember seeing this or know what happened?

One of the most meteoric success stories in comics history began in 1983 when two aspiring artists conceived a goofy parody of "X-MEN" style superhero mutants, "NINJAS," and "CLASSIC ANIMAL" character comics. Husbanding their talents Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird came up with the idea of four turtles living in the New York City sewers who become mutated into super-powerful humanoid beings.

 

Found and raised by Splinter, a pet rat of an assassinated ninja master, they are taught the ways of the world, honor, and the secrets of martial arts, while struggling to remain your average TEENAGE MUTANT.

A self published comic book made possible through an income tax return, and a loan from a faithful Uncle, the first BLACK AND WHITE issue premiered in May of 1984, as a limited run of only 3000 copies.

 

Within two years circulation had reached 130,000 and THE SPOOF had become a true AMERICAN DREAM, but that was only the beginning.

 

By 1990, the turtles were not only the NUMBER ONE kids animated TV series, and the BEST SELLING action figures in the world, they also BROKE BOX OFFICE RECORDS when they hit the silver screen. Originally brought to life by the remarkable JIM HENSONS Creature Shop, the fab four would continue their adventures in two more live action films, nearly three hundred animated episodes, a live action series and live touring stage show.

I don't know where the majority of the art is. I have only seen about five pages earlier than issue #7, including the two that I own. I can only assume that Kevin Eastman still owns everything else.
