Two shows to mention for our Southern comic fans this coming weekend. On Friday through Sunday will be a card, toy and comic show being held at the North Carolina State fairgrounds in the Scott Kerr building. Friday from 2 to 7, Saturday from 9 to 4 and Sunday from 10 to 4. Please note this is mostly a sports card show but there have been some serious books in the room in the past and will be again this weekend. Just a handful of comic dealers in this 200 table show. I know there will be an AF 15 in the room along with a whole bunch of key issues from the 40’s to 70’s as Gene Carpenter of All-American Comics will be setting up. There will also be some very reasonably priced supplies including my lites and backing boards which have gotten both tougher to find and also pricier. Admission is a very reasonable $5 per person. The promoter is Tidewater cards and collectibles. If you Google that you will find the website for his shows/store.
On Saturday July 24 Gene will leave his box stock in Raleigh and take his wall books to the one day Comic Con in Richmond Virginia. Hours 11 to 4 with a VIP package getting you in at 10:30 to be the first to check out all the goodies and perhaps find some sweet deals in this big event space. This is a true comic con and the local fans have been waiting for more than a year for this popular event to return. Please note you have to purchase your tickets beforehand. Don’t just show up clutching your cash in hand expecting to buy a ticket as everything including dealers booths have to be done online. Website for this con is vacomicon.com. That will get you a whole lot more information including an extensive vendors list and ticket info.
Also to note Gene will bring his wall books back to Raleigh Sunday but in his absence on Saturday his walls will be filled with other great comics including very eye appealing books like Avengers 1 and 57 plus other low to high grade keys from the 60’s to more modern times.
