Thanks for the congratulatory words. Remember from earlier though...

I can't doll out likes.

I've been in and out of the hobby for 35 years so I'm no newbie. I've known how to grade old school. But I've never cared too much for condition or grades. That's a product of collecting on a budget and largely in NM (think regional scarcity). You get what you can find and be grateful.

But upon returning to the hobby two years ago I've mainly contented myself with enjoying what I have rather than increasing my collection. So I photo catalog, display, sort, rebag and board, read and enjoy.

And I determined to get good at grading. I'm getting there and this forum has been so valuable. For years I played silently. Then I spoke up. I was hoping for a contest especially since my posted grades are too new to compare to certified books returning from CGC.

On a personal note (and no pity, please), earlier this summer my wife decided she had enough. She didn't want to try any more after years of marital discord. I moved out. And on the day I left I was driving to my hometown and this contest was announced. Over the past week, which has been tough, this contest, and the fun within, has helped me a great deal. A whole lot.

Thanks to @Point Five and to everyone who has shared in the fun.

Oh man! I'm so glad this has given you some joy this week. Best of luck in this tough time. It will get better.

I pretty happy with how I placed except for this round!  I had 3.5-4.5 for TEC 359 shoulda went with my gut !

Considering how awful I was at grading just around  2 years ago, I am pretty happy with my 20 points!

You can be happy with your 20 points if you want!

No pity. Just empathy and understanding.  Congratulations on the contest and the uplift from some comic relief.  357447005_giphy(18).gif.1be64d2b83d21f2441e4ea039f5230ab.gif

I thought that bug chew book was going to torpedo me hard

Great selection this contest.

And largely out of my hobby-focus.

Later tonight I'm making notes. (And I have a notebook on grading with other resources.)

Rat chew on an otherwise great book - moderate: -2.0 deduction +/-.

As I said in the Round 4 post, I had that Romance around 7.5/8.0 absent the chews. How low could it go? Not to VG. It's not a VG copy. 4 grade drop seemed fair as did the FN range.

Fun + Education (x Refinement of skills) = This Contest.

that was my thought exactly, though I started at 7.0 for the other corner
