We were all set to take her to the specialist this morning, when she started eating, both canned food and dry food. I called the vet, and as long as she keeps eating, we're not doing anything for a week, when the vet will take another look at her.

Keeping our fingers crossed that she keeps eating.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! yay.gif

The more I read the more I begin to realize that you do not have a "very sick cat" ...sounds like it's just being finicky and is playing head games with you as a ruse to obtain special attention... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Hope your kitty kat is ok and please disregard my previous advice to put your cat down...it's seems my advice was a little premature... sorry.gif

This is the perfect example of why (unless your pet is in pain) you should exhaust everything you can to try and fix the problem. That pet is your responsibility, Joanna summed it up perfectly earlier on. Money can be re-made, your pet is unique.

Glad your cat is eating again

Much as my late cat adored her Fancy Feast (and refused to eat anything else), I really wish I'd never given it to her. When her sister died, she refused to eat for a couple of weeks, and I was trying desperately to tempt her with treats. I bought some Fancy Feast and that did the trick. However, once eaten, they never want to go back. The problem is that it's not healthy for them, and can lead to renal failure (which is eventually what killed my cat, possibly. They were never quite sure. Diabetes was also a possible cause).

So what can you serve? Here's a great website that lists almost all known canned cat foods and includes the specs on how much of the "bad stuff" is in each: Canned Cat Food

I picked up a 3 legged kitten from the pet store in the early 90's.He was the last in the litter and they told me the mother chewed his leg off.He had the cutest face and I always liked underdogs so I took him home.He lived 12 years and was the greatest pet I ever had.To this day, friends still talk about Max, he was the the best friend I ever had(for an animal),he was almost human,I swear...sadly he got cancer in his bad leg and I had to put him down.I have 2 cats now,and I love them, but Max will always be the best cat I will ever have, bar none.. thumbsup2.gif

Absolutely, and you know what? Many other people would have put her down already. Some people are not as patient or caring as Nearmint with their pets. That is why I said before NEVER PUT AN ANIMAL DOWN UNLESS IT IS IN SERIOUS PAIN OR EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH NO SIGN OF LETTING UP. Too many people want to play God when they have no right to. Congrats to Jeff, but especially to the cat. And CAT, if you were playing games and just being finicky, well..... 893naughty-thumb.gif it almost cost you your life.

I only feed my four cats Science Diet cat food, canned and dry. The dry is especially formulated for "older" cats. This food is a bit more expensive and can only be purchased in a pet store or at a vet's office, not at a grocery store.

The nice thing about Wellness is that it is human-grade food... so if you run out of pate during a party... confused-smiley-013.gif

Y'know your cats' will be a LOT healthier if they never eat this stuff . . . gossip.gif

btw Jeff - Glad to hear the news! 893applaud-thumb.gif

I feed my cats dry chicken-rice based kibble (stay away from any fish-based brands) - they won't eat anything else (well, except for an occasional bug, mouse, mole, snake or bird insane.gif)

They live and die for feeding time. They've never had a single mouth-tooth-gum related problem, and are quite healthy, having only been to the vet's for neutering, shots, flea and tick control, and the occasional mishap, like a thorn in the eye lid.

They wouldn't eat human food for anything - no interest at all.

One of my cats killed a couple of squirls!? confused-smiley-013.gif

I agree with your feeding time statement. Every time I took out the can opener they'd come out of their hiding places and be all over me.

Why is there no squirrel flavored cat food. Why is there no mice flavored cat food.

Not that manufacturers need to harvest these critters for food but can't they make up some formula that makes the cat think he's getting country mouse?

When a cat brings you a dead mouse, he's offering dinner advice. "please cook this for me?". I guess because marketingwise it doesn't look good on the label.

It wasn't that my cat was just finicky. Believe me, she's usually a pig that'll eat anything. Chances are she had an infection, and the antibiotic that the vet gave her just took longer than usual to take effect.

Right now she's got a full-on buffet to chose from, but normally we just give her Max Cat, which is only available in pet stores, and has low ash content, which I'm told is important.

She's been eating all day now, so hopefully we're out of the woods.

Thanks again, everyone!
