X-Men 109 from 2001 with different cover 0

hi, 

I have a strange copy of X-Men 109 from 2001. It is 100 pages like the version I normally see is and reprints Xmen 341, 143 and 98 but it has a cover I have never seen before. The cover is like the texture of newsprint, the front cover is as you see, the back cover is X-Men 98.

Anyone able to tell me what I have? Thanks.

341? Isn't that the Xmas issue where Cannonball fights Gladiator, and it came with those reprints tacked on? Or was that 343? Anyway, what are the staples like? Do they appear to have been monkeyed with?

yes it is the Xmas issue with the Gladiator fight and also includes a reprint of Xmen 143 and 98.

I see no tampering, in fact the book is in extremely nice shape.

Does anyone have a copy of Xmen 109 and can check the interior to see if the first wrap is the cover to Xmen 143 and the back is Xmen 98?

Xmen 109 is a 100 page book with Xmen 341, Xmen 143, and Xmen 98 reprinted in it. My cover is different and honestly I am thinking this copy was manufactured without the cover.

I pulled out my copy to check.  It seems like your front cover is simply the 2nd to last page of the book, but folded over.  That would explain why the X-Men 98 is the back cover, as that page was to the left of the 143.  Some pictures will make this easier to make sense of what I'm describing...

If you flip one more page from the back (3rd to last), it's the ending of the UXM 341 story.  Also, all these pages feel like Newsprint stock, but really, it's just the feel of each page of the interiors.

IMO, you're missing the normal cover AND the X-Men 143 cover was folded around to act as the new front cover (thus making the X-Men 98 act like the back cover).  Unless the staples have been modified, you should be able to turn that page back and see the staples more clearly with the first page being the X-Men 109 indicia and the back cover being the cover of UXM 341.

Yes what I have is a coverless copy and the interior page that features the cover to Xmen 143 became the front cover which made the Xmen 98 cover page the back cover.

well I wish. After closer scrutiny it is obvious the interior page was folded to the front to create a new "front" cover.

I was really hoping you had something "new" here.  It's always exciting when oddities or unknown variants have been discovered.

Then again, as an X-Men completionist, I would be pulling my hair out to find a copy for myself.

I'm glad we were able to collectively solve the mystery.
