Marvel Studios has a top-secret project with Scarlett Johansson in the works. Kevin Feige revealed this news during an American Cinematheque Award ceremony honoring the Black Widow actress. Now, it isn't another Black Widow solo movie, because she's a producer on the project. But, a lot of fans were surprised to see that go down nonetheless. A lot has transpired since the release of Johansson's first solo feature with Marvel Studios. There was the lawsuit against Disney because of the theatrical rollout for Black Widow and a big back and forth through the press. Eventually, there was a settlement reached, where the terms were not disclosed to the public. With Tower of Terror on the horizon and a new Marvel Studios project lurking. It seems as though the partnership has been renewed in a real way. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a bunch of her MCU co-stars showed up in some way to celebrate her award.  Feige offered some nice words about her importance to the MCU.

 

"We are already working with Scarlett on another non-Black Widow-related top-secret Marvel Studios project with her as a producer," The Marvel boss offered. "Scarlett is one of the most talented, versatile and beloved actors of our time. It has truly been a pleasure to work with someone of her caliber. From those epic training sessions preparing for the hallway fight in Iron Man 2, to the around the world press tour in Avengers: Endgame to partnering with you as a producer on Black Widow, working with you Scarlett has truly been one of the most memorable and rewarding collaborations of my career."

That deal her team cut with Disney must have been sweeeeeeet!

In the months that followed the release of Black Widow, Johansson's eighth outing as Natasha Romanoff and the first time that she suited up as her in a solo project, Marvel President Kevin Feige revealed that the two were working together in a producing capacity on a "non-Black Widow related top-secret Marvel Studios project." Following that quote, Marvel announced its Phase 5 and parts of its Phase 6 slate eight months later, but Johansson's mystery project was nowhere to be found.

 

Beyond Feige's lone quote about the mystery project, Johansson has been relatively quiet on the Marvel front since. Her latest MCU comments came on fellow Marvel star Gwyneth Paltrow's podcast where she re-emphasized that she is done playing Black Widow, saying that that "chapter is done." While that may be true from an acting standpoint, Johansson still has a future with her longtime collaborator.

Hopefully it's a time machine to take them back and rework the abysmally misused and under-utilized Black Widow character.

Black Widow should have gotten her movie right after "Captain America: The Winter Soldier".  That was peak time/interest in her as a character.  Feige dropped the ball hard.

He could have built an entire espionage franchise from that one film. Winter Soldier is easily one of Marvel's best all-around movies. It's a real shame they couldn't see that sticking with that direction would have garnered them some great longevity. Black Widow was so unbelievable underutilized, the mistake of sweeping her under the carpet in subsequent movies is up there with classic missteps like cancelling Firefly and using that stupid theme song for opening credits of Star Trek: Enterprise.

There were several confirmations for an untitled top-secret project Scarlett Johansson was working on in collaboration with Marvel Studios. These confirmations came from Marvel Studios' boss, Kevin Feige, and Scarlett Johannson herself. When ET interviewed Kevin Feige during THE MARVELS premiere, he has confirmed there was a project in the works with Scarlett Johansson:

• ET: "Yeah, it was like one of the things that was talked about at this retreat were Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. possibly returning at some point."
• Feige: "We did not discuss that at the retreat is the truth. We're doing a project with Scarlett."

         

Scarlett Johansson also commented on this top-secret project in an interview with ComicBook back in June 2023:

 

"It is still happening, [but] not currently because nothing is happening right now. We're all sort of in this holding pattern as we wait out the writers' strike and potentially our own guild strike, and so on and so forth."

Disney+ series...ok, I'm less worried.  When I first heard this news my first thought was Margot Robbie producing Birds Of Prey.
