When you pull out the choke on that saw, it automatically sets it to a very fast idle.  The reasoning is, it would put more gas in the carb for easier starting.  When it fires, you disengage the choke. (push it in)  The saw is still on very fast idle.  When you pull the cord again and it starts, the chain will spin plenty fast enough to do serious damage.

Even if a saw is warm, I would pull out the choke and push it back in to ensure a start on the first pull.
