Beautiful classic cover of Famous Monsters of Filmland #17.  This one has seen better days.  Odd crease(?) on the obverse lower spine.  Several pics provided.  I thought it was tape at first but closeup, I don't think so?  Thanks for you opinions!

If you're referring to this, it's either (1) a tear and partially-detached piece or (2) a patch for a missing piece.  The piece's/patch's surface texture appears rougher (and possibly a bit thinner) than the smooth/glossy paper that surrounds it.  And what's up with that strand of lint?  Is it stuck to the paper or just lying there?  So check the outside/inside cover for glue (which often can best be identified by how the area feels rather than how it appears).  A sensitive fingertip can be your most effective tool!  :preach:
