First pressed book 1 1

I just got this copy of Giant-Size X-men 1 back from being pressed and graded, it was my first for both. The pressing turned out better than I expected - really minimized some major creases and completely cleared up some dings.

I do have a question for those of y'all that have some experience in pressing. The bottom right corner cover is slightly rolled and I would think that would be a relatively easy thing to address in the pressing process. I'm not very familiar with what all that entails but I would guess if something was placed under the cover to keep it from "hugging" against the pages then it would be fairly easy to flatten out.

It does look like if it was smoothed out that the cover would have more of a jagged, uneven edge. Could that be why it was left alone?

Like I said, really happy with the results and a 4.0 was higher than I expected also, just trying to learn more about what to expect from a pressing.

I know absolutely zero about the professional process of cleaning and pressing a comic, but just from a physics point of view, those bent edges probably couldn't be pressed out because they extend beyond the body of the book itself--there's nothing to "press" them against.

That's my theory.

That's my theory.

They can be pressed out, but you need a certain level of experience. With that said, overhang on books like GS X-Men 1 is easily damaged by getting bounced around in the inner well. The bottom outside edge of the front cover is notorious for the edge folding over once encapsulated.

Yeah, it probably WAS flat between the time it was pressed at CCS and the time you received it.  No extra charge for the wear and tear.

Did you happen to purchase the CGC image for your submission?  I’m guessing that wasn’t there before it left the building.

I did not, but I could see where that would be useful......now.

Now that I have had a chance to really look at the image and damage to the book, SCS usually forces the cover to bend down and curl over itself. From the image it looks like the damage to the corner goes up, indicating it was lifted at some point. How much room is there on either side of the book (inner well)?
