Need some help on info on this book. (shadow warrior 0 prototype ashcan)

My friend got his old comic book collection and I was going thru it and found this book.  From my understanding this is a possible ashcan from my research and only found one site listing all ashcans but beside the name of this book no picture and it had a ? mark and that all I could find on it.  It came from BC Canada.  Wish I took a pic of the back.  Stood out to me since looked very similar to Moon Knight but it isn't.  It was also signed by either the artist or writer on the back if I recall.  Hope to have a pic of back cover tomorrow.

Any info would be appreciated.

Yeah same people/series but I cant find any for sale or price on the book I showed let alone a pic of it.  I would assume not many where even printed of it.  Probably not worth much but you never know.  As mentioned a list I found the listing for this book is completely blank.  Its listed but with no info unlike majority of the books on the ashcan list.  Just says shadow warriors 1988 issue 0 ? and then no pic or any other info unlike the rest.

Be the change you wish to see in the world! Send them the photos and page count.

It looks like the front cover of the ashcan ended up being the back cover of the Shadow Warrior book.

Been trying to find the website I found like 2 weeks ago but I was like searching clicking links and such and took a bit to find it and now no idea what I searched to find it.

Seems this book is pretty scarce.  Not listed on ebay and not even in closed listings, mycomic shop and other retailers no listing in their databases.

Also curious since the prototype is printed by voodoo comics and then it switched to gateway.  I can find the gateway publishing company but can't find voodoo.

I know rare doesn't mean big money but this book is sure intriguing.  I usually find that when you can't find info on something it usually has a decent price.   This book has that same feeling like my Canadian gi joe 6 file card print sheet which we know of 2 for sure and someone says they have it so a 3rd one may exist.  It ended up being couple hundred dollars.  This may be an assumption but this book feels it was only in BC, Canada and I know for fact that the book I showed is from BC and signed there since thats where my friend came from.

If anyone is running a data base and wants to use my pics for it go ahead.  I also texted my friend and asked for the page count.

K so the book has a cover and 4 leafs .  The story starts and ends on the inside and back of the cover with no ads so 6 pages plus front/back cover. So for anyone that wanted that for a database I hope that makes sense.

Fairly sure "Voodoo Comics" was just Krock and Ciancone. I doubt the ashcan was distributed beyond local stores in Kelowna, BC. For a lot of indies of this nature, print runs are very, very small. I don't have any first-hand knowledge of this book, but I wouldn't be surprised if that print run was something like 50 books.

I agree that there's no real sales history here, so it's really whatever interest the market would take. Ciancone was a more skilled artist than most of '80s small press / self-published creators, so that's a point in its favor. But the flip side of that calculation is that I don't think Shadow Warrior #1 has any significant demand, either. That makes this book unlike the pre-Aircel stuff by Barry Blair, where the rare self-published prototypes of Samurai and Elflord actually go for nontrivial sums due to interest in Blair's work.

And unfortunately, while Shadow Warrior was actually pretty promising for a first endeavor, neither writer Krock nor artist Ciancone appear to have followed up with any further comics contributions. Life turned out particularly poorly for Krock, although I'll leave that there.

Thanks for the info.  My friend was from Kelowna so makes sense but didn't want to assume about how many printed and such but was thinking like 100 or so.  Shadow warrior yeah doesn't seem to be in high demand.

As for Krock didn't want to assume anything but is he the same person with pretty serious criminal charges that is shown on the internet?

If a value was placed on this book what do you think it would be?

Its signed but no way to prove that.

Tried contacting some of the guys on the back of the book but no replies to try and find out print count.

Does anyone know who the ashcan expert is on the boards?

See this is really tough

We have Image ashcan specialists, Tick ashcan specialists, Maxx, Pitt, Marvel, Archie, ......ect

This is really indie, never seen it before, which makes it wicked cool

I'd say it is pretty worthless unless you find some sicko who collects notorious nonsense. I'd burn it myself.

I would have to disagree. 1.  it was one individual if my assumptions are correct about what that person did.  But there was 3 other people that where also involved in this book. 2. Everything has a value to someone.  3. it did turn into a comic series and any individual that collects that set would want this book which as I mentioned this is one of few that are probably left.
