PGM my Xmen 134 (Reader copy edition!)

I really just wanted to read this book. It's hard to find it at a price that I can justify buying low grade x-men, but at a convention this weekend I did (by bundling it with a high end 142). Lots of issues, crease down bottom right corner is biggest issue of front cover, but ticks, bends, and scratches to be found, especially down front spine and edge of front cover. Is at least structurally intact, no pieces missing or major tears or stains. So this isn't about actually submitting to CGC but a test of my grading skills. Sidenote: Re: Backcover - think the Star Wars people noticed the scroll text rip off (!)

Spoiler

My guess is a 6.0/6.5 range. (after C&P) edit: after seeing the spot in the middle revising to a 5.0.

To my eye, the bottom of the back cover looks like it has a water stain, granted in could be regular dirt that looks like staining. Is that a light spot next to the phoenix nose? I'm tougher on copper age books b/c collecting field was starting to become what we recognize. I'd go with a 4.0, but maybe as low as a 3.5 depending on the above notes. I've purchased books listed at a 4.5 that look better overall, but have some specific defect (e.g. a small tear)

That is some good eye sir. I don't know if that's a stain next to the phoenix nose, perhaps a tape pull that lifted off some colour, but I definitely missed it when I looked at it (note, it was bought as a reader copy and paid that amount, I was just happy to get it to read for the first time since I read my brother's copy in 1983.) I'm holding the book and under really bright light, and I think based on the imprint, I think it looks like pencil marks (like if a piece of paper was written on it on top of the book). But there is a chance it's a stain.

more of back cover (and inside back cover):

just a cool final panel:

side note: OJ had ads for two separate shoe companies in this issue, one on front inside cover and one on inside back cover. I forget how big a deal he was in the 1980s.

I know how you feel. I have a few books like that including Avengers 158. I have my beat up reader that I had as a kid, a collectible copy and I splurged on a 9.6 a while back. Also, why I grabbed an Avengers 9 well before everyone on the planet decided it was the book to have last week.
