2022 CGC Grading Contest Season 1 Summer Edition (#3) Round #3
11 11

I actually had 4.5 on the Showcase 4 but I downgraded it to 4.0 before submitting. The back cover was really clean.

I’m at 19 points so I probably need five bullseyes in the final round. The grades are in so there’s no turning back.

Not a single person has reported a good score this round.  Possibly the toughest round in the history of grading contests.
@oakman29

@Hudson

We'll see but I think so.

CGC secret sauce

Crowdfund me so I can study full-time and I'll see if I can put out a book, barring litigation, within 2 years. :sumo:

"Cracking the CGC Code."

Everyone could then grade and Raw would again be king! :applause:

Will be fun to see how many people called the ST 5 a 9.8.

They had nerves of steel. 9.6 was so much safer a bet.

Disappointed to hear that some people knew the one book was a mile high book. That kind of sucks.

It looked like a rat had been chewing the bottom corner to me. That was my big fail.

I feel better about my 3.5 assessment of the Flash comic after reading the comments.

17 points after 3 rounds.

5- 0 points

6- 1 point

2-  2 points

1- 3 points

and that damn Gi Combat for 4 points.

Celebrate knowledge!  :headbang:  The neatly penciled "D-month-day" arrival date is one of the common identifiers of Church books from this period.  There are many "lost" pedigrees floating around out there, so it can really pay to know their respective distinguishing marks and characteristics.  In terms of condition grade, I think the size of Book #11 (America's Greatest Comics #5) is far more relevant than the Church pedigree.  That's one of the nicest looking spines I've ever seen on a 100-page comic!  :whatthe:  :whatthe:  (worship)

I guess.

Looking at that book, with its two nasty corners, get an 8.5 reminds me of my ASM 6 resubmitted 9.0 that got a 7.5 because the back cover lost a tiny, tiny piece.

I think VF is a stretch for that book, and 8.5 was an absolute gift.

I think I had 10 pts in this round. Close on some - but way off on Crime and Showcase. I let CGC Mike know that this round was going to move me out of the top and looks like that's true. I assumed the scratch was a tear and rust migration would drop it a bunch. Still not sure about the Crime: I think I thought the foxing on the back was heavier than it was (with staining thrown in) and there were several large color loss spots on the cover - but that might have just been part of the artwork. :facepalm:

America's Greatest #5        8.0

Fight Against Crime #14     4.5

Showcase #4  3.0

Fantastic Four #25  2.0

Supernatural Thrillers #5  9.6

I disagree. If you've never had a raw Church book in hand, you're at a disadvantage. They are simply extraordinary for all the elements that make up the grade, particularly for the era the collection is from. That's really the tough part of this contest though...we're all grading scans and they're grading raw copies.
