stynxno
oof. The GI Combat #68 threw me. I'm guessing I didn't take enough off for what I think is foxing. Unless there's something structural I missed.

Popular Post zzutak
On 8/1/2022 at 9:05 AM, CGC Mike said: According to Mike's grade distribution table, only 118 players completed Round 2 (down from 137 at sign-up and 124 in Round 1). Here are the key measures of central tendency for Round 2 (Mean = the average grade; Median = the middle grade in a numerically rank-ordered list; Mode = the most common grade): Book CGC Grade Distribution Statistics # Grade Mean Median Mode 6 5.0 4.8 5.0 5.0 7 9.0 8.5 8.5 8.0 8 4.0 5.1 5.0 5.0 9 6.5 6.6 6.5 6.0 10 9.4 9.5 9.6 9.6 Board members were generally in line with CGC on the Round 2 books. Here are a few notable observations based on the data reported above: Book #6 (Hit Comics #5): The "easiest" book for the Board as a whole, with 30% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and 69% within one grade increment of CGC. Collectively, the players were only slightly more critical than CGC (4.8 vs 5.0). Book #7 (Four Color #348): A challenging book for the Board as a whole, with only 22% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only 60% within one grade increment of CGC. Collectively, the players were one grade increment more critical than CGC (8.5 vs 9.0). Book #8 (G.I. Combat #68): By far, the "toughest" book for the Board as a whole, with only 8% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC ( ) and only 32% within one grade increment of CGC ( ). Collectively, the players were about two grade increments more lenient than CGC (5.1 vs 4.0). Neither the front cover shadow nor the back cover halo have sharp, well-defined boundaries. In my experience, that's always been a good indication of tanning to the inside covers. Someday, we'll get another shot at this flaw, and we'll see whether explicit, up-front disclosure results in lower estimated grades. Book #9 (Hulk #181): Another challenging book for many, with only 20% of the contestants at the same grade as CGC and only, 61% within one grade increment of CGC. However, this time, the mean contestant grade was essentially identical to that of CGC (6.6 vs 6.5). Book #10 (Spawn #1): The Board has spoken -- this is a 9.6! I still can't see the defects that were called out in the Grader Notes. Kudos, as always, to Mike. And congratulations to everyone near the top of the mid-course Leader Board! kav, Steppenwolfscomics, grendelbo and 6 others 6

adampasz
My strategy of procrastinating until the last day seems to be paying off. I'm especially happy about getting a bullseye on the Four Color Donald Duck! The GI Combat threw me, like everyone else, and I also had the Spawn as a 9.6. kav and grendelbo

Spoiler There used to be a rule that if you dont finish the contest that you dont get to participate in the next contest, so double check. @CGC Mike Looks as though it's not a rule anymore and replaced with just forfeiting the contest this round. For some reason, I don't register tanning very well. Probably one of those things where it doesn't bother me too much so I don't notice it (but heaven forbid if there's a spine tick within a comic's zipcode). Something I need to get better at recognizing.
