I believe I see the tear at the bottom on Carnage's knee. My copy has a couple of similar ones, albeit smaller, so IDK if this is a common manufacturing defect or just a coincidence. The top of the front cover and the spine ticks/stress marks in total probably knock this down to 7.5±0.5, but I would be surprised if this got to 8.0.

I keep learning new terminology (that I will forget). Does CGC ding this severely, or treat them differently than a tear? Asking for a friend (me).

Typically it's an ignored defect chalked up to the manufacturing process. Unless it's been worsened through handling.
