Valiant Nintendo comics

These are pretty special and high dollar with crossover to the hot video game market.

Question.  There seem to be two versions of these.  Not just a variant but different comics altogether other than the cover art and some of the interior

Price is different, Higher priced one is cardstock and not cheaper paper.  Interior ads, letters and stories are different.

Could find much via google or ebay.  Any experts out there on this one.  Looks like the $1.50 version is more of a newsstand and harder to find in grade.

Yes, I was actually at a local con a couple of months ago and was kind of suprised as I noticed that some of these early pre-hero Valiant issues were actually going for quite a few hundred dollars.  :whatthe:

I once had a big stack of them from a store closeout, but sold most raw over the last few years. The "Legend of Zelda" set is probably the most popular, followed by "Super Mario Brothers" and "Adventures of the Super-Mario Brothers" (I got $70 for a #1 in March). I sold a "Zelda" set much too early a few years ago, but still got well over $100 for it back then. Those series would be followed by "Game Boy" and then "Captain N: The Gamemaster", but even a 5 issue set of those I sold for $169 (also in March), which speaks to what a nice set of "Zelda" might go for now.

I personally think they belong in the dollar box but to each their own

Well, from an availability POV still much better than those "common as dirt" Spidey 300 and Spdiey 361 where you see every single dealer at a con having mutiple copies of these books in HG for sale when they probably really belong in the quarter box.  (:

For speculators and investors who always say that Overstreet is years behind the market, it looks as though you sold your copies for even less the guide valuations in the new Overstreet that came out a few weeks ago.  Overstreet had the first issue of the Adventures of the Super Mario Bros listed at $150 in top of guide, $200 for the Legend of Zelda, and a whopping $450 for the first issue of Super Mario Bros.  :whatthe:

All I can say is that he must have had some big shot CA advisor really bending his ears because he also kind of went ballistic on the Grendel related books and to a lesser extent, the early Usagi related books.  (shrug)

I had the one and only Nintendo Comics System Preview in 9.8, I'd take an ASM 300 in 9.8 over that.

Is this the book you are talking about since it looks like somebody on eBay is trying to sell  CGC 9.6 copy for $2,500:  :whatthe:

Since the end of last year, it looks like there's now 5 of these books in CGC 9.8 along with another 6 copies knocking right on its door in CGC 9.6. (thumbsu

Yes, just might be for a regular collector, but probably not so much for the CGC label chaser who actually might not want either.  hm  (shrug)

But most definitely not the CGC 9.4 graded copy for themself as there's another 11 copies in higher graded condition than his plus already another whopping 13 copies so far in equivalent CGC 9.4 graded condition.  :p

I picked up Super Mario Bros #1 CB 9.6 and Legend of Zelda #1 CBCS 9.8. These are two of my favorite comics in the collection. Loved Zelda, Mario, and comics growing up so these were a no brainer. I'm really surprised these aren't more popular. The low population makes them rare.

Has anyone seen a list of NES 1st appearances? These are the only one's I've seen online:

  • Legend of Zelda #1 - 1st appearance of Princess Zelda, Link
  • Captain N: Game Master #1 - 1st appearance of Metroid, Kid Icarus (below)
  • Blip #1 - 1st appearance of Mario, Donkey Kong
