I am asking about Illustrated Stories Of The Operas Faust.  Hopefully, I have added the picture correctly.

That book was first published in 1943. Shrinkwrap wasn't used commercially until the 1960s.  

While I have no personal knowledge of the book in question, shrink wrap or any plastic wrap was not in general use in the decades before it was invented.

Thank you - while I thought it strange a book that old would be shrink-wrapped, I just wanted to be sure.
