Picked up a high grade Marvel Fanfare #1 on a whim. Surprised it was so cheap. Is this series canon, any upside to its future worth?

I remember when it was launched!  It was a big deal then to have the interior pages use cover stock paper!  Spider-Man and The X-Men in The Savage Land!  The title soon gave way to what seemed to be a dumping ground for a place to utilize file stories!  I don't know, or care, what the monetary value of the book presently is, but I can tell you that the memories are priceless!  :cloud9:  Thanks Mr. Milgrom!

What’s not to like about this book?  Not only Spidey/X-Men in the savage land, but....

A Frank Miller back cover...

A Spidey/Surfer double splash by Byrne....

And a back-up Daredevil Christmas story by McKenzie / Smith / Austin :cloud9:

I concur. Quality-wise, it’s fantastic.  Especially for the money.

As previously stated by another boardie, a pity the quality couldn’t be maintained.  Some interesting stuff, such as the Perez Black Widow, BWS’ Thing short, but very patchy as a run overall.

I think the whole series has a lot of hidden gems, and prices are starting to rise a little on a few. The first few issues had large print runs, but after that, some issues can be much harder to find. It did devolve into file stories after the first couple of years, but even then there were a lot of big names showcased in the title.

I see it a little like Marvel Premiere or the later part of the Marvel Spotlight run… These are perennial dollar books, until suddenly they’re not, and everything sells for $15-20. I think Marvel Fanfare’s time will come.

I have a full run. The series boasts some classic covers such as #6 Scarlet Witch (PCR), #10 Black Widow (Perez), #13 (early Arthur Adams), #15 Thing (BWS), #18 Cap (Frank Miller), #34-37 Warriors Three (Vess), and the four exquisite painted Shanna covers by Chiodo on issues 56-59 towards the end of the run.

A lot of the issues also had artist portfolio pieces in the back, which were great for autographs, and the all-pinup issue (#45) with the Byrne cover was just terrific. I used to take mine to Comic-Con and I think I ended up with about 10-12 signatures in it.
