Yeah, I just looked up the Frank Miller Chronology Page and it states a "Short Batman Story" but doesn't give an issue number.

Dim sum Dan may be correct. Toss up between Weird War Tales or a hi-# issue of Unknown Soldier. F Miller firsts may be listed in the Wizard Annual, if anyone has a copy of that tome .

You're thinking of Unknown Soldier 219... I'm 99.9% sure the WWT 64 predates it. I believe the 2nd FM DC would be WWT 68.

OS 33rd edition says the same thing in the Weird War Tales listing, but at the front of the book on page 55 it says his first DC work was in DC Special Series #21 in the spring of 1980. Who knows.

If you read it carefully, you will see that we note the Weird War Tales issue as his first DC work, but the note on DC Special Series in the front specifically lists that as Miller's first work on *Batman*.

Oh, I see. So in the section called "Artist's First Work" it's the artists first work unless it isn't. Ooooook. Got it.

As I said, under that section it clearly states that the two books listed are his first Batman work and his first Daredevil work specifically, because at the time that list was originally compiled, those two issues were more important to collectors in general. It's not as easy as it seems to keep up with all these individual lists and refresh them with every edition. That one list, regrettably, has often lain fallow. But we'll try to sort it out .
