Personally, I love these old 50s war books. You don't see them around often and that's why there are only 9 copies on the census. And not expensive at all!

More Fun Comics #14 (DC, 1936) CGC VG 4.0 Off-white pages. 

First appearance of Dr. Occult (a Superman prototype) in DC Comics, in color, and in costume! Vince Sullivan cover. Joe Shuster, Leo O'Mealia, and Whitney Ellsworth art. Jerry Siegel story. Gerber "7" or "scarce."

Incredibly solid copy of this rare and historic book.

A CGC 3.5 conserved copy sold for $3,240 on July 7, 2022. Heritage has sold just a handful of copies over the last two decades.

There are only 11 copies graded higher, and the highest is not surprisingly just a 7.0.

New Fun Comics #3 (April 1935)

Fair (1.0). Mild spine stress, mild edgewear, ownership rubberstamp below logo ("ELLIOTT STEWART"), edge foxing and tears up to ½" to covers, top right corner of front cover clipped, small stain to bottom right corner of front cover, fingermarks and 2" soil spot to back cover, top right corner area of all pages soiled, some tears to pages (the largest being 3"), a large piece of the second-to-last page is neatly trimmed out (it was designed to be cut out for kids to make some sort of movie clips). Contains 36 pages (including the partially-trimmed page). It is a beautiful copy of an historic book that would have graded significantly higher were it not for the piece cut out.

For those who know me from the old days of the Boards, I had the #1 registry collection of New Fun/More Fun Comics for many years. I was just a few issues away from completing the entire run of 127 issues when the death of male comic book collections occurred -- divorce! Alas, I had to sell most of the set, although I kept the first ten issues for my personal collection. I can state with conviction that #3 was the hardest of the issues to find from the New Fun series. Gerber rates it an "8" or "rare". In the nearly fifteen years that I was working on the set, I came across two copies and I bought one of them (although it is possible that it was actually the same one that I saw over a period of years!). Heritage has sold only three copies in over 20 years: 2002, 2006 and 2020. They explained why this issue might be rarest of the six New Fun books: "We're told that in the earliest days DC would lower the print run for each issue after #1, awaiting sales numbers, and would then either increase the print run with issue #4 or phase out the title. That would help explain why this very collectible third issue is so hard to find!"

If you want a copy for your collection, I strongly advise never to pass up an opportunity to buy one! That's why I purchased a duplicate, and believe me I am fine with keeping this as an investment book!

Secrets Behind The Comics #nn (Famous Enterprises Inc., 1947) CGC FN 6.0 White pages. 

Stan Lee was only in his mid-twenties when he wrote this book, yet as it proclaims, "He has been in complete charge of more comic magazines than any other living editor." This book was advertised in Timely comics upon its publication. It has a two-color paper cover, and it's actually not a comic, though it is hand-lettered in true comic style. Smilin' Stan's text is primarily illustrated by Golden Age great, Ken Bald. The book has tons of interesting features including a profile on Syd Shores (with four pages of his Blonde Phantom reproduced); Mike Sekowsky, Basil Wolverton, Al Jaffee, and Martin Goodman are profiled as well. There is also a detailed description of how Captain America was created, accompanied by several images.

Just last year, Heritage recorded a sale of $7,800 or nearly 4x guide for a CGC 9.0 copy! Well, no worries about that because here is a mid-grade affordable copy!!! Prices are kinda all over the place for this book. For those who know what it is, bidding can take it to multiples of Guide. Sometimes one can be lucky to find one for less because many people don't recognize the significance. 2023 OSPG 6.0 value is $444.00.

It is a really cool piece of comic book history.
