Howdy Mag-Friends,

I humbly come seeking counsel and expertise once again :foryou: if you can read my short story.

Recently picked up 3 giant tubs that has everything from normal Marvel & DC BA & CA to funny animal stuff to a Dell Lobo #1 from 1965. Mix in about a hundred MAD's and Cracked Mags to over 100 Undergrounds and it was fun sorting through everything.  My work is cut out for me with the Undergrounds as I try and find out what avenue (if any) is best to move them. I'll just do a spreadsheet and see. Maybe MCS will buy them in one fell swoop?

About 75% of these "Tub Books" have prices on them. Perhaps the owner was a seller and tried his hand at cons at some point. He also stapled the top of the bag in addition to taping it closed. Yay. Lots of opening bags twice. Sticker prices on the comics were hugely optimistic. I can't see anyone in their right minds having success selling VG/F Boris Karloffs, Twilight Zone and Tweety & Sylvesters for $15.00 each.

And then there were these 3 curious & strange magazines with outrageous price tags that I've never seen. But I have seen a few FS threads over the last year here selling mags of this sort so I thought it best to come here and ask. No clue if they really are "scarce" and close to the values he stuck on the bags. Anyways, sharing them (and a pic of some of the Undergrounds) to see if anyone out there is willing to share their knowledge.

The most valuable of the bunch is probably the Wildcat.  While some of the MAM mags are particularly scarce, I've never seen one (even very high grade books) sell for more than $1k.  While I don't recall seeing that Escape to Adventure for sale before, the Wildcat comes up fairly often and is usually in the $100-$300 range at auction.  The 1969 issue of Male is common and usually sells for $20-$50.

Hope that helps.  (thumbsu

Glad to help.  Incidentally, the MA mags are where a lot of artists landed because they were more steady work and paid better than comics.  I'm sure you noticed the name on the Escape to Adventure.  He did a lot of work for those magazines.

I would happily sell my mags for 1k each, Randall! What is the record price, and for which mag? Any idea?

The Men’s Magazines are fairly scarce to find out in the wild anymore. These are fairly tame covers compared to some. The prices are crazy on those. Crazy. There is also a much smaller collector base for them.

The UGs seem to be pretty common titles. Some might be worth a little bit if 1st prints. Again, a lessor collector base than regular comics.

That's a great question, Flex.  Let me look at some of my records and see if I can put forth some candidates.  It's most likely one of the Man's Story issues or a copy of New Man that has reduced circulation/availability relative to the others.

I'll send this about the undergrounds. On first glance, I don't see anything exciting. That Fed n Heads is a 4th printing or later (probably a 5th print, which is really a "5th through 11th because they're identical" print). Merton of the Movement is by the same group who did Air Pirates Funnies, except without the controversy or value. I see a couple Dopin' Dan books, but they're continuation issues after the original trilogy.

There are probably a few decent value items there. Dirty Laundry #1 is a first printing; it's tough to tell condition in the wide shot, but high grade copies might go $20+. If All Canadian Beaver has a 50 cent cover price, it's a first print (if 75, 2nd) and that could be a $25+ book too.
