What does the asterisk in front of the price indicate?

I think it means that the actual bids aren't really that high, but since it's close to the end of the auction, CLink is showing the reserve amount less one bid increment. If you go to the page for that listing, and hit the "history" button, you'll see what I mean.

What Superman2006 said.......clicking on the "bid history" for that item will reveal the reason as:

(*next bid will hit the reserve)

I remember this comic. I tried to buy it from the seller via the Exchange in 2021. I placed a bid of $8,200 and it had a Buy-It-Now for $12,000. While I waited for a response from the seller, they raised the price to $18,000.

What is the meaning of the asterisk to the left of a dollar sign, within an active auction?
An asterisk will be displayed next to the price of a given auction lot within 5 days of the end date/time of an auction lot, if the current bid has not yet reached or exceeded the seller's reserve price. The asterisk next to the Current Bid price signifies that the price displayed is no longer an actual bid, but instead was raised automatically to one bid price beneath the seller's reserve amount. The asterisk next to the Minimum Bid price signifies that the next bid will hit the seller's reserve for the item
