It Was The Day Of The Robot by Frank Belknap Long  Belmont Books 90-277     First Edition PBO  1963   $25   SOLD at 20% off to goldust40

The Koontz book I listed was near perfect but this gem from 1963 I'd call structurally perfect, which is amazing for a black cover book.  A First Edition of a Lovecraft circle author as well.   Classic Robot cover art is un-credited but super cool.

Very Fine/Near Mint. Another one like the Avon I listed that I'll use a grade I never do. Covers bright and glossy, obviously unread and stored perfectly for 60 years. Great page quality. Light toning to interior.  I'm proud to have unearthed this book, well worth a premium.

For my last book for tonight I'm going to go back to my specialty, the Good Girl Art.  I may do another sale where I'll concentrate on this material :)

A Strange Kind of Love by Sheldon Lord, pseudonym of Crime Master Lawrence Block. Midwood 33-885. Second Edition from 1967 with a gorgeous new leggy cover by Robert Rader       $30

All Midwoods have gotten scarce but these later ones with new painted covers are pretty rare, especially in nice shape. Rader hit it out the park with this one.

Fine Plus. Bright and glossy. Front cover is very pretty with a hairline reader crease, back cover has a light crease at top left. Spine is square and tight. Great page quality. A pleasure to look at.

A spectacular Earle K. Bergey GGA cover of a wild dancer getting her clothes ripped off by some Catskill Mountain yokels. A classic for sure.

Very Good Plus. Square and glossy. Pages tight and supple. Some very light creases. Minimal wear.  A pretty copy of a great Bergey cover.

Visa To Death by Ed Lacy (Pseudonym of Len Zinberg) Perma Books M-3036  from 1956     $20

Another hard boiled noir with a gorgeous Good Girl cover, this one by Robert Maguire.

Very Good Plus/Near Fine. Appears unread and glossy. Very slight spine slant, hairline reader crease where it's been opened a few times, but virtually no handling creasing and only a few hints of wear. Has a tiny shadow inside front cover where a sticker must have once been that fell off without damaging the paper. Another very pretty book.

If He Hollers Let Him Go by Chester Himes  Signet 756   from 1949     $40

The first paperback edition of Himes' first book with the classic and fantastic cover art of James Avati. A searing race novel from before he created the legendary Noir Detective duo of Coffin Ed and Gravedigger Jones.

Fine. Super glossy and new looking. Solid spine has slight slant but pages are tight and supple with the usual toning. Lamination is in great shape with only slight lifting. Very high grade for this tough title.

Hollywood Bedside Reader  John O'Hara, James T. Farrell et al.  Avon Books No. 338    Published in 1951      $35

A  sick copy of this amazing Good Girl art cover PB by Robert Crowl. I love her.

Very Fine/Near Mint. A grade I pretty much never give since VF is my highest but occasionally they come around.  Blinding gloss, Perfect lamination, Bright, square and tight. Pages are off white with almost no toning. Highly unusual page quality. It doesn't get any better than this.

The Autumn People by Ray Bradbury     Ballantine U2141  1965    $50

A gorgeous copy of one of  Frazetta's best PB covers and a great collection of Bradbury EC comic book stories. Part of the set of the first attempt to resurrect the EC stories by Ballantine.

Fine/VF.   Front cover is VF, the line you see by the spine is the printers indent where the cover is meant to be turned. Back cover has a light bend at bottom and a couple lines. Spine is square and uncreased, has a couple of light stress lines. Great page quality.

Amazing looking in hand. With the dark covers, this one just doesn't come around like this.

Death In The Library by Philip Ketchum   Dell Books No. 1    A key first issue.   $60

William Strohmer's clever and bloody Art Deco cover art scheme started it all for the Dell Books line in 1943. One of the most iconic books in the hobby as it launched a decades long history of mystery publishing, later with maps on the back, that are highly collected. The first several dozen numbers had the extra large "eyeball in a keyhole" that is probably my favorite vintage PB colophon.

Very Good Minus/Very Good. Solid square and tight, has some light creasing on the front and a bit heavier on the back with a small hole. Rare in any condition and this is quite high grade for the title. My keeper is not much better and I've been looking for years.
