Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC have announced that they will bring Justice League: Warworld, a new entry to the DC Animated Movies line, to 4K UHD, Blu-Ray and Digital on July 25, 2023. DC’s Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman find themselves in mysterious lands and precarious circumstances with no memory of how they arrived there and only vague recollections of their true selves. The all-new, feature-length film brings together DC’s “Trinity” for the first time during the Butch Lukic-helmed DC Universe Movies arc.

Producers for the next animated Justice League movie just revealed why their movie is R-rated.

Butch Lukic elaborated that the Justice League movie is “mostly rated R because of the violence:”

"It's mostly rated R because of the violence. There's a lot of bloodletting, sword-fighting, and gunfights. The violence, and then the R-rating's coming from that. Originally, honestly, it's a PG-13."

Krieg admitted that “If you cut out the blood with swords and guns, there's nothing. There's not a lot left.”

Justice League: Warworld is now available to purchase digitally.

Good movie. Though the connection points to other movies is not so obvious.

At the end of Legion of Super-Heroes Batman and Superman were captured by a green light. Turns out that was Mongul bringing them to Warworld.

The story is based on 2022 comic book stories (Action Comics titles Warworld Rising, The Arena, and Warworld Revolution). Another item DC should have emphasized. At least then readers would note the source connection.

The story is good once you realize this is treated as a multiverse-connected story with characters pulled from various worlds (Jonah Hex, Bat Lash, Wonder Woman from Earth 2). And their behavior doesn't always match the traditional lore.

This leads into the 2024 Crisis On Infinite Earths animated movie. So Warworld ends on a slight cliffhanger. Though the follow-on intent should have been delivered much more obviously and smoothly.

Glad I watched it, though. Once I understood the approach and intent.
