Do you replace your Mylars?

6 posts in this topic

Depends if u have backing boards inside those mylars. May want to replace your boards. Saw a 6-8 yr old acidic board w/ gross yellow oily stains yesterday inside a mylared comic I was buying. At least I got the comic cheap b/c it was probably priced 6 yrs ago. grin.gif

I asked Bill Cole how often you should replace the 3% calcium carbonate buffered boards he sells. Here's his response:

You don't have to. That is why they are so expensive.

I have sent in books that I mylared (with NO backboards) as far back as '83. All have come back OW-White to WHITE with no visible damage. I'm talkin issues from 1960-65. I do send them to CGC in the original loc-top mylars (why take chances?). wink.gif

So that should tell you that they hold there own at least 20 years. laugh.gif
