The Eternal Savage by Edgar Rice Burroughs  Ace F-234, October 1963   $15   Now $10

The First paperback edition with an action packed Roy Krenkel, Jr. cover.

Fine Plus. Glossy and unread. No creasing and shows virtually no wear other than a slight dent at top - has some age darkening that keeps me from calling it higher. Pages and interior cover toning. A very nice looking unworn copy.

Whom The Gods Would Slay by Ivar Jorgensen (Paul Fairman)  Belmont B50-849, December 1968   $15   Now $10

It's a bit unclear on ISFDB but this appears to be the first book edition of any kind after its pulp publication in 1951. Features a great heroic Jeff Jones cover.

Fine Plus. Glossy and unread. No creasing and shows only light wear to the tips - has some interior cover toning. Pages are creamy/tan. A very nice looking copy of a scarce book.

Spiderweb by Robert Bloch backed with the Corpse in my Bed by David Alexander   Ace D-59  1st Edition PBO of the Weird Tales/Arkham House author Robert Bloch.      $40

Bloch's 1st book for Ace with classic Harry Barton GGA cover art. As mentioned elsewhere, much harder to find these early Ace mystery  novels in any condition compared to the Science Fiction ones.

Very Good Plus/Fine Minus. Solid spine has minimal wear, pages tight. Reader crease on both sides and Spiderweb side has light creasing to the corner but the pages are supple and tight and covers glossy and attractive. My copy is only marginally better, almost impossible to find without any creases.

The High Window by Raymond Chandler    Pocket Books 320  1st Printing September 1945   $30  Now $25

An iconic early hard boiled paperback. The first paperback edition and a highly recognized classic with a great art deco cover by E Mcknight Kauffer. Scarce in the 1st printing in nice condition.

Very Good/Very Good+  Solid spine has slant, tight binding, pages tight and supple. The thick covers have some long bends in them that don't break color on the front and only lightly on the back. Name in ----script on front endpaper. Only a hint of edgewear. Overall a very collectible copy of a classic cover vintage paperback.

I was originally going to list more on this thread next weekend but I forgot we are taking a short vacation then. In the meantime I have a ton of stuff kicking around the library from sorting and rather than put them away and pull them out again, I figure I'll just start listing again this week. It'll be in fits and starts as I gotta work during the day but there's going to be plenty of Frazettas in various grades and Good Girl cover stuff. I'm also going to run a few more low price sections with just one picture to save time as I think that's the best way to go for some good bargains. I'll get the remaining June 4th books into the recap and start fresh after that.

Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar by Edgar Rice Burroughs  Ace F-204  1st print of the 1st US PB   May 1963   $15  SOLD to goldust40

Frank Frazetta art with beautiful color scheme.

This is from a bunch I have that have heavier toning and varying degrees of mostly unobtrusive writing (or in this case indenting) on the cover but are still quite attractive. The previous owner obviously loved noting the year the story first came out.

I'll call this one Near Fine. Very glossy. Hairline Reader crease. A few color flakes around the edges. Light finger bend at upper right. Indent of "1918" on cover above the girls hair that is very faint, hard to see, there is almost no ink in the indent. Tiny check mark on back cover and under "1918" on copyright page. Pages and interior cover have heavier toning. It's actually a bit darker than the photo appears. I'm not going to take photos of every interior but this is an example of these. Still a nice copy of a 60 year old vintage pb 1st. Now that they are properly stored, these should last another 60 years easy.

The Lost Continent by Edgar Rice Burroughs  Ace 49291  2nd print of the 1st US Mass PB   October 1969   $12  SOLD to Norrin'sLawyer

Frank Frazetta Lost World art.

This is from the bunch with heavier toning but has no writing.

I'll call this one Fine. Glossy.  Has reader creasing but in the white it doesn't break color. A color scrape on back edge. Whites are pretty good but have aging to the edges and the back cover has some foxing/toning. Pages and interior cover have heavier toning. Still a nice collectible copy.

Got a little space in my day so I am going to get to work on a little pile of Avons. These are very fresh bright copies for the most part with great page quality. I took a pic of the interior on this one to show the freshness.

The Embezzler by James M. Cain   Avon 99   1946        $20  SOLD at 20% off to PopKulture

A great copy of an early picture frame Avon by the hard boiled master.

Fine Plus. Great colors and page quality, Spine and covers are smooth and uncreased. Couple of tiny light finger bends. Small bindery chip at top spine. Some writing on first page but overall an excellent copy. Tough to find early Avons like this.

Double Indemnity by James M. Cain   Avon 137   1947        $20 SOLD at 20% off to PopKulture

Around this time in 1947, Avon began to pioneer the use of very large figures of Good Girls (sometimes Bad Girls :) ) and headlights on the covers. This one, credited in the copyright office to GGA pioneer Tony Varaday is a nice example.

Fine. Great colors and page quality, Spine and covers are smooth and lightly creased, barely noticeable from the front. Some writing on first page like Embezler but overall an excellent copy. A classic hard boiled novel.
