E.C. Segar Thimble Theatre Starring PopeyeComic Strip New Year Promotion Original Art (King Features Syndicate, 1932). Popeye the Sailor greets his readers in a specialty drawing designed to appear in print on New Year's Day of 1932. Segar kept his signature character busy even outside the daily-comics continuity, courting newspaper editors and subscribers with a crowd-pleasing zeal. The blank, or mortised, space at lower right was designed for an individual paper to insert its own message, such as subscription or delivery information. This near-unique drawing was designed for newspapers known as Herald; Segar is known to have prepared other such greetings for papers named Globe, or Tribune, or Times, or etc., etc., etc.... This piece, ink on Bristol board, measures out at 6" x 7.25", affixed to an 8" x 10" backing card. Excellent condition.

Art from the book that illustrate some of Roger Zelazny's most famous tales and characters. Available here is the artwork from Page 25 created in ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol board with an image size of 10.5" x 5.75". Rough bottom edge, with spot staining and light handling wear. In Very Good condition.

Betty Boop Animation pencil drawing cells 1935

12 field, 3-peghole animation drawing of the one and only Betty Boop. This is from the Dave Fleischer-directed short, Judge For a Day, released on 9/20/35. Nice full-figure 3.5" in graphite, marked 306 and 315 in the top right corner. Any 1930s production art from Betty Boop is considered scarce! Normal handling and edge wear with mild age-related toning. Very Good condition.

Toby Comics Artist Al Capp's' Shmoo Comics #5 Complete 7-Page Washable Jones Story "The Sleeping Beauties" Origina... (Total: 7 Original Art) for $650

This 7-pager was created twice-up scale in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 12" x 18". The logo and story title on Page 1 are stats that have discolored and have glue residue near them. The pages are toned, with light soiling, marginal creases and bends, and some corner wear. Overall, in Very Good condition.

Johnny Craig EC Comics' Old Witch Pencil Study Original Art with COA $500

Craig most likely developed this detailed miniature as a conceptual study for a commissioned painting. Accompanied by a COA from EC archivist Roger Hill, dated 11-13-2010. Layered graphite on vellum, dry-mounted to illustration board. Image area, 6" x 8". Very Good condition, with natural smudging intrinsic to the medium.

Frontline Combat and Two-Fisted Tales Photo Proofs Group of 12(EC, c. 1950s) $180

Proofs included are the story pages 3, 5, and 6 of "Light Brigade" from Frontline Combat #4, pages 1 and 7 of "A Baby" from Frontline Combat #10, and all the pages except the first of "Massacre at Agincourt!" from Two-Fisted Tales #22. The 7" x 10" proofs have staple holes on the top left corner and light creases, a spot stain on one page, and light overall toning. Due to being the original photo proofs, they have the brown borders to them. Overall in Very Good condition.

Marie Severin Crime SuspenStories #1 Cover Color Guide Production Piece (Russ Cochran, 1992) $350

Includes the Russ Cochran Portfolio

This color guide featuring Johnny Craig's printed work was hand-colored by Marie Severin for the reprint collection. The 8.75" x 12.5" was created with watercolor over Johnny Craig's printed line art. The areas of printed back have shine with some color rub/loss, a tack hole on the bottom margin by man's arm, plastic overlay taped over "Startling Tales of Tension" which has yellow watercolor on it, and tape on the back top edge. In Very Good condition.
