Ended at 19,000, so either the owner was willing to lose 3K, or this was a scam. Anyone know the winner or the seller?

Well, the willingness to take a $3K loss on a $22K piece is not out of the realm of plausibility (especially since some of us, including myself, thought the price looked high at much lower levels), but I'm surprised that the seller would roll the dice on going with a no-reserve auction on a piece of this $ value, so that is a bit suspicious. Though, I don't recall anyone here or on Comicart-L definitively calling this auction a fraud...doesn't anyone have the name of the previous buyer in their records and does it match up with the seller?

I'm stunned that someone paid $19K for that piece!

You and me both! Someone is obviously valuing it higher than his other work, due to the fact that it was used in the film. Personally, I think it's one of his weaker examples overall. Very rough.

Best,

I would suspect that only certain pieces are going to be really "Investment" grade. Covers to well known books like Marvels, Kingdom Come etc. Then a few of his specialty pieces. I like his stuff too, but trying to get the 10K together to get the painting I want is a little much for me.
