I used to go to Armchair Bookstore all the time when I in the late 70s - early 80s. What a creepy place. But I got a crapton of great stuff there, most notably a Sgt Fury 13 in NM.

I used to stay with my sister up on Terwilliger and take the bus from a stop down on Barbur Blvd and hit a lot of the shops in town, including Armchair, Apache, Excalibur, and many which I don't recall the names.

Yes - went to Future Dreams and Pegasus all the time. Pegasus was my store in Bend, prior to Mike Richardson moving to Portland to establish Dark Horse Comics.

When I briefly returned to collecting in the early 1990s, I picked up a bunch of books from Future Dreams and got this very nice ASM from Pegasus (now Things from Another World) in Beaverton.  As @lizards2 and I have discussed, I also shopped at Armchair (and Apache and Old Weird Harold's) in the mid-70s.  Wild.

First appearance of Black Cross and Concrete.  I understand Concrete is back in the works for a movie.  This copy is straight out of a sealed case that came straight out of the Dark Horse warehouse.  It went straight out of the case and into a 2mil mylar with triple backing boards.  Little known fact: Mike Richardson sold me the first copies Dark Horse Presents #1 and Boris the Bear #1 ever sold.  I got them the day before they came out.  As for indie publishers, Dark Horse was huge and led the way for companies like Image and others.

I was in the Portland, Oregon area with my parents and sister when I was in my teens.  We took my sister to the airport there for her three month stay in the French Alps for an exchange program.  We stayed at a hotel and the first thing I did once in the room was grab the phone book and look for comic shops.  There was one less than two blocks away, Pegasus Books.  I was there first thing in the morning when they opened.  The owner, Mike Richardson, was there and I looked around for a bit.  

He and another guy start loading in long boxes.  Mike told me, with a lot of excitement, that he had started a comic company and his first published books were in the boxes.  He showed me DHP 1 and Boris the Bear 1.  I told him I'd take five copies of each.  Mike said they weren't going on sale until the following day.  I told him I was leaving in the morning before his store opened and that I lived almost 7 hours away.

He sold me those copies that day.  The guy helping him?  It was Boris the Bear artist, James Dean Smith.  I politely asked him to sign a copy for me.  He was an unfriendly and said no, completely brushing me off. lol  Anyhow, those books were a big hit with my friends back home and I made some tasty trades for other books with the extra copies.
