I'm actually willing to argue it's the greatest album ever.  I can't think of another one that works so well as both a collection of singles... darn near every track is a classic that still gets played on the local classic rock station... and considered as a single concept album as well.  Not a new opinion on my part, I remember discussing it with friends in the 90's.  My view hasn't changed.

I’m bias to music in that period because there were a lot of great songs/albums coming out then. I was 10 in 1973 so I was in the heart of it. I think 1970’s music is still at the top today because of Marvel and other movies using it so much. That said I know the band will debate it but Dark Side of the Moon was lightening in a bottle because of them but also Alan Parsons involvement. I like songs on Animals and Wish You Were Here but nothing plays like Dark Side before or after by Floyd or anyone else. I would say I got high listening to that album more than anything else in the decade. If Led Zeppelin provided the folksy Lord of the Rings fantasy vibe at times then this album would be the counterpoint of dreamy science fiction…

I bought that album, and Rumors, for a Christmas present for my Sister when she was 16 IIRC. She played them both into oblivion. GOD BLESS ...

Rumors

My 20 year old daughter in college just dropped on me the other day that she started listening to this album and can't stop looping it. Granted she has great musical taste (obtained from her father's endless playing of 60's & 70's RnR in the home during her childhood :)

I told her that album was AOR radio throughout 1977, just song after song rotating into the top of the charts. I still have my original vinyl of it. It did get "played out" back then but I enjoy hearing it again now.

As for News Of The World - I agree with all of what youse guys are saying. I first heard Queen when my older brother played me "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the 8 Track in his car. I went out and found Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Day at the Races, and Night at the Opera at Titus Oaks record shop on Flatbush Avenue :cloud9:  and bought News of The World the week it came out. I saw them live on that tour at Madison Square Garden. Brian May was my ultimate guitar hero. The King of Tone.

So the mods don't think we're spamming the thread, I am officially announcing that I'm wrapping up work and will get this party started pretty close to the announced time. I have a lot of Science Fiction/Fantasy lined up since that's still at the top of the pile and folks seem to be enjoying it (thumbsu

Conan The Conqueror Robert E. Howard/The Sword of Rhiannon Leigh Brackett     Ace D-36     1953    $80  SOLD to goldust40

The first Conan paperback, 1st Edition of Sword of Rhiannon.  Norman Saunders/Robert Schulz covers

VF minus.  Square, tight and glossy, great spine, has super light reader crease, a couple of thumb bends, light edgewear. Inside covers are near white with the usual toning to pages.  A really nice bright copy, much better than usual, I'll probably regret this some day.

I own a few of these. Easily the most bizarre take on Conan. Maybe influenced by the swords and sandals movies of the 50’s?
