Wow, some stunning results today. Did anyone else see the Wolverine #7 cover hammering at $144K? I sure didn't. The Karma tax in full effect :jokealert:

was also surprised by the Manara Savage Wolverine Shanna the She-Devil variant cover going for $60k! Someone really wanted that one ...

I was outbid on every one of the pieces I bid on ... except the Saviuk black costume Spidey splash. was happy to land that one. Hoping 1 or 2 things fall through the cracks on Sunday, but not too optimistic.

Wow, that's pretty nuts.    I'm not a fan of Buscema on Wolverine personally; I don't think he was the right fit for the character at that point in his career at all.    $144k seems.. strong.

You know, I’m going to take the devil’s advocate on that one.   Certainly multiples of what I’d pay but at least it’s quality artwork.    I have no issue with erotic themes in artwork personally.

60k for a quality piece , I can understand  that easier than I understand $200 for a garbage new  commission that’s a tracing of a porn photo.

Its pretty common to hear from US collectors about how Marvel is king, but then you see what some of these European artists pull down at auction and I am always surprised. I can only press so far with such things in my house. I quite like the style of Crepax but err...

The grass is always greener I suppose.   Imagine what the European audience thinks about some of the US results!

Why not just keep in a portfolio?  Not every piece has to be on the wall.

Somehow that is even creepier :)

Rosinski is another European artist whose prices always surprise me.

Just seems like you're hung up on admitting you like it lol    Excepts to us fellow dirtbags in this forum, I guess.

Erotic themes are just erotic themes.   Who cares?   You wouldn't put a great perverted Crumb page in a portfolio?   I don't get that POV, maybe its an American thing.   Full disclosure, I was born in Europe myself.   I don't get why anyone would care as long as its somewhere their small children won't see it.    In a portfolio, I'd happily have an erotic page next to, I dunno, an Uncle Scrooge page.   Its just another genre.

I am seriously conflicted on this upcoming page, not erotic but violent as all get out. But it begs the question whether a page can be too A+ and roll over into the F category ;) I may need a portfolio yet!

Well, it’s a story about Jack the Ripper after all.    I generally like violent pages from violent books and sexy pages from sexy books, funny pages from humorous books, heroic pages from hero books, etc.    the pages that get to the essence of the story or character.   This definitely does that.    The startling part here I think is that the cutting is cold and clinical.   This is not the first time this person has cut up a human body and it doesn’t trouble them in the least.

Thought the Trimpe Hulk 181 cover recreation was an interesting purchase at $25K.

A couple have popped up over the past few years privately with asks around 15-20k. Haven't heard of one going this high, but I'm not surprised.

$25,000. For a copy. :roflmao:

Well, it’s 1% or less of the real thing; that’s not so bad, and with the artist being deceased it’s not like you can commission another.

Agreed. And how many did Herb do over the years? I would think it’s got to be fewer than the existing number of 9.6 Hulk 181’s (375), which would be the grade in which a copy of the comic would be closest to that price range.

It is the same artist, and he’s gone.

Congrats on the Pin-Up! @romitaman

hey thanks bunches!

I personally feel this art is as historic as any Ditko Spider-Man COVER with it being the actual drawn art created for the 6 foot poster as well as numerous cards toys and marvel memorabilia throughout the years.:)
