Of course, the one part that  they got wrong is that Stephen Bissette says that the books would be sold uncertified and we clearly know that to be NOT the case at all.  doh!

The article says "The formal certification and slabbing of comic books started in 2000 with the creation of the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), which is also grading Farrell’s comics collection for Heritage Auctions."

Yes, I saw that sentence, but the part which I was referring to was the paragraph that followed immediately after that sentence:  :gossip:

“It makes me happy to hear that Chris’ collection is not in that state of existence,” Bissette said. “But it will also diminish the market value, in that people will bid on those comics and they will bid on them hoping on getting a copy of a given comic in good enough condition so they can slab and resell it at a higher price, so this is gonna be a highly speculative-driven auction process.”

the rarest issue in his Windex Scarcity lisitng for the All-American run

I thought #2 was the toughest.  (shrug)

That's quite possible since I was just going from sheer memory and the current CGC census would seem to confirm this with only 6 graded Universal copies for AA #2 and 9 copies for AA #7.  Looks like most of the pre-GL All-American issues are realtively scarce if you go by the CGC census, with AA #4 being the rarest with only 4 graded Universal copies to date so far. hm

Too bad my search skills on these boards are pretty much abysmal, but I am quite sure both of these issues were quite high on Win's Scarcity Index.  (thumbsu  I probably remember the AA #7 because I much prefer that cover over the typical rather yucky yellow covers which DC was generally running with at the time as evident with so many of the other early AA issues including AA #2.  :p

Not sure if Gary Carter had done up a Relative Scarcity and Demand chart for the All-American run which he had done for quite a few of the other DC titles like Adventure and Flash Comics in the early issues of his CBM magazine. :luhv:

Kudos to you for the efforts. In your quest did you ever learn why Tec 1, 2, 8,13,14 and 15 weren’t in the collection? I own the 6 and my understanding was this book was a back issue picked up after Edgar began collecting and am very curious as to why those other specific issues are missing. 🤔

Thanks for this question as I can update the list with some new issues that weren't included when I released it and CGC grades for a bunch of books.

There is a #1. It changed hands in 1996 in a $150,000 trade deal. It was reported in Overstreet 27. I believe it was also a back issue (it's mid grade- VG/FN)

#8 is CGC 8.0

Detective 14 and15 are in the collection.

Also, Church was just getting started in 1937 so probably didn't have everything on automatic with the newsstand until a bit later on.

For sure as all of the books that were already sold off by then were not included in Chuck's Mile High listing, the most obvious being the Church copies of Action 1 though Action 21 which has been residing in the Dentist's personal collection for several decades now. (thumbsu

For your reading pleasure, just received another email from Heritage this time with their Intelligent Collector Newsletter which had this article on the attorney for the estate reaching out to Heritage with respect to the Superwoman of Comic Book (i.e. Christine's) collection:  :blahblah:  :cloud9:

Those weren't sold already when Chuck did the original 1977 catalog. They were part of the group that he held back for several years.

Has anyone ever asked Chuck to join these boards? Would love to him answer specific questions about the acquisition and subsequent sale of various books from the Church collection. It could be moderated to avoid having it go off the rails, maybe have questions submitted in advance that he could respond to. Would make for one hell of a thread.

These boards have already driven off Don Rosa and Neal Adams.

What else could go wrong?

A forum could be set up so all replies would remain hidden until approved by me.  The settings are a little different than the ones in the ask CGC forums.

I would be happy and dorkily respectful to be able to ask a set of questions in that situation. There are so many small mysteries (how much was the Wonder Woman #1 sold for?) that I'd love to get clarification on. I would be happy to submit a block of questions in advance, since I have a few at the ready!

The only "last thread" I was involved in was Brulato and I was just trying to point out that he was actually the ultimate 🐳and we should give him some room 🤣
