Thank you for your time helping to grade this book. 

There is a hole or tear on the spine adjacent to the staple.  Not along the staple length itself.  Would you call this a staple tear, spine tear, or..?

Dunno what they'd call the tear, I'd call it a spine tear as it runs along the spine and not across the cover as staple tears do.

Not sure the definition of the tear matters much. It might even be an "acceptable" defect given the overall condition. The paper oxidation is pretty heavy. 5.5/6.0

Wow, you guys are grading high. I wouldn't even consider putting this anything near fine condition. 

I have many books like this I grade as VG.. There are other significant issues here not just that staple rip.
