Mirror covers!   To my knowledge, the genesis of the multitude of same themed “suspenseful” mirror covers was the cover to the August 1933 issue of Phantom Detective pulp.  Examples:

Detective Comics #15 - a clear swipe

More Fun #65 (my fave of the theme)

Master Comics #48

Prize #38

 All-American #42

I haven’t noted all such examples, and maybe we can post all those that are clearly the progeny of the 8/33 PD pulp cover.
I wanted to start a thread on just that a while ago but never got to it …
