Akira - Epic Comics
1 1

6 posts in this topic

Hi,

Seeking some advice please. I have all 38 issues of Akira (the Epic Comics version), all first print (though I think that’s only relevant for issues 1 & 2). FYI I’m located in the UK. All are in very good condition and I would be looking to sell at some point in the future

Should I get all of them graded? Or just the important ones (if someone could suggest what ones are the important ones, that would be amazing)?

Thank you in advance for any responses.

Greetings,

There are some very good graders in these forums that would be willing to give your books grades at no cost (just your time to take some nice pictures of the books).  Check out:

https://boards.cgccomics.com/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/

Depending on how your books grade, you'd then be able to make a better informed decision whether it's worth the expense of sending the books off for slabbing.  Having estimated grades of each book will also help you value them easily.

There is a service called GPA analysis which tracks sales of CGC comics across many (but not all) platforms/websites/auction houses.  You can use this paid service (ebay sold is a free lesser substitute) to get a range of possible achievable values for selling your books in various grades.  Note that most buyers will international for you, possibly lowering your selling prices and possibly adding to your fees.

You can use the CGC website and see how much it would cost w/shipping, grading, insurance, return shipping, invoice fees, customs fees/taxes (you may have to look that up yourself or call someone at cgc if you're not sure) to see how much it might cost you to submit.

After that, you can do your own math to see which books might be worth it to submit.  Everyone has different financial/profit/collection goals and preferences, everyone has different opportunity costs, and everyone has different levels of risk aversiveness (loss, damage, hassle, delay, theft, unforseeen costs, lower grade than expected, etc).  In your case the literal currency valuation might be a factor.

Good luck.
