Fukuoka
Thanks in advance for any help. Not really sure this is worth getting encapsulated because of the damage on right bottom corner. Also wondering about the grime/discoloration on the white title letters and the area around the price. Are these examples of things that cleaning/pressing would improve? joeypost
A press would improve the look of the book, but even with a really good cleaning and pressing the book is not worth sending in. Chaz G. and Fukuoka

Thx very much for your opinion. Wasn't exactly asking if it was worth sending in--sorry for my lack of clarity. Everyone has a different feeling of what is 'worth' it. I guess in addition to asking for a grade, I should be more specific and ask if a cleaning would help the white X-MEN lettering. scburdet
I see evidence of foxing in addition to grime. You might make the book look a little better if it was cleaned, but there's very little upside on the grade. Classic reader copy Fukuoka
joeypost
If the book has sentimental value, then yes, I would have it cleaned and graded. The slab should provide protection from receiving additional damage. Fukuoka
JollyComics
Sell it as is (4.0). Fukuoka
LowGradeBronze
I'm also at 4.0 and would be inclined to keep this raw so it can be used as intended. Fukuoka

Palm Beach Presser
Due to the creases and missing piece at bottom right it is limited to a 4.0/4.5 and cleaning and pressing will not significantly change that grade but it would dramatically improve the eye appeal. In response to your question, the price box, trade lettering, and back cover would improve tremendously with cleaning. The extent of improvement from cleaning varies based on many factors (what the substance is, what ink color the soiling is on, how much laminate or gloss is on the book, and other things) but you can expect significant improvements in that type of soiling.
