Are fees calculated pre or post cleaning/authentication on comics?

First post, so forgive me if this question was already covered somewhere on the forum.

I have a question about the fees. I plan on submitting several signed vintage ASM's to JSA/CGC. Is the $400 comic value limit based on the books value before the clean n' press, without the signature or is the value determined after the work is done? Thx in advance.

I think this question probably fits best in the Ask CGC section. Tagging @CGC Mike in case he agrees it should be moved.

Hi @Greg1294,

Thank you for reaching out. The Declared Value is based on the raw book that you submitted. The value we ask you for is an insurance value, a number you would feel comfortable with in terms of a replacement value if your item was lost or damaged while with us. Each tier of service covers up to a maximum specified insurance level and you must choose a tier of service that will accommodate the declared value for your item. Once we receive the book we will get the Fair Market Value from our third-parties based on the raw book. We encourage you to be conservative as we do not reimburse if it has been over-valued. If a book were grossly under-valued, we would contact you to bump the book to a higher grading tier and you would just pay the difference in the grading fees at that time. This can take place at any time during the process. Details can be viewed online with our Declared Value PolicyGood resources for determining the value of your comics are completed eBay auctions and the posted prices of large dealers. CGC does not assign values to any comics/ magazines.

Please let us know if you have any concerns.

Thank you,
