Other than contemplating suicide any suggestions on what to do with these books/

Not much at this point, as we have all been gut punched from time to time when submitting books. Use it as you move forward and double, even triple check your books before submitting.

I definitely want to know how you came across these books too.

 

Joey is 100% right though: sometimes you just get out on your butt with some books.

 

Just manage the emotions and survive all the negative thoughts; I know it can be rough.   Just know: the odds of this happening are low; so you shouldn’t encounter this often.

Coming from the same seller was my first thought, but the number of qualified books made me think it could be that the books were treated or washed. I'd be very interested to see the actual notes once the books are shipped.

I'm so sorry Moose.  This is a disappointing result and a hard lesson to swallow.

Of 25 books 4 Universal, 3 restored, and 18 qualified.  Is it fair to assume all of the qualified books as missing pages?  As others have asked could you tell us how you acquired these books?  Are most of them from 1 seller and if so who is this seller?

I would like to suggest that you watch videos on youtube like this on detecting restoration.  Don't ever let someone rip you off again.  And before buying any raw book in person take it out of the bag and board and carefully count pages.  Typically when I'm interested in a book I'll ask the seller if I can remove it from the bag or if he will remove it from the bag.  If he won't let me inspect the book I'm moving on and honestly, any honest seller should want you to have a good look at a book you're interested in.

I'd also like to suggest you buy universal graded books to avoid restoration, over-grading and incomplete books. 

I'd also like to suggest you buy books from honest quality sellers.  This board is a pretty good place to start because most sellers here are honest and can grade and count pages.  Online dealers like Greg Reece, Bob Storms, mycomicshop, Bedrock Comics would be at the top of my list and are very trustworthy.

Many years ago back in the mid 90s a guy brought these books to me and traded for some sports packs they were very popular at the time 1995 SPX. It had Alex Rodriguez rookie card and it was a really hot item the packs were very very expensive back at that time. my kind of partner / Traded packs and boxes for these comics. I didn't have any issues with the X men or fantastic four, I began to have a few issues with some of the tales to astonish books but this was beyond anything that I would have ever, ever imagined. They all came from the same guy possibly he knew was doing but nothing has happened to them in the last 30 years so whoever did this did it before I got my hands on them a long time ago. I'm almost afraid to even look at the tales of suspense.  I'd rather have not even send them in had I known this. You bet you're you know what I will examine anything very closely before it goes in again no point in spending money grading them.

So sorry to hear, man. Lots of undisclosed restorations floated around years ago.

On a positive note, it's probably best that you sent 'em in to CGC for certification.  Just think of the havoc you'd cause by selling these books raw on eBaay without disclosing their missing pages and/or restoration.  :fear:
