"i sent you a refund in July as i was leaving for southern Calif to San Diego, gone for a month factoring in Chicago Wizard in mid August - since then i have been dealing with a damaged left hip socket, not doing any shows, i have been here full time.

 

why did you not contact me it had not been received?

 

i will mail out another one this week

I sent you a PM asking what this query of yours is about.

I have been home full time since August, see below, and very easy to reach.

I went off the internet for a month last July headed out to the San Diego Comicon, as time ran out, leaving all kinds of emails to send and receive in the dust. when the deadline to travel hits, well, there we are. I have been to every SD Comicon since the first one back in 1970, it is a regligious trip to Mecca for some of us who have been to every one.

 

My senority there evidently blesses me with a booth right at the B door entrance into the Gold Silver Pavilion, easy to find - Metropolis is at the other corner of that entrance.

 

1000s of old and new friends do i talk with over the course of the week i spend in that cavernous dealers room, arriving Monday night, load in Tuesday morn, head back out Sunday night.

 

Then the pit stop back across country, retool the booth, and head for Chicago, effectively consuming at least a month of my life between just those two shows.

 

For me, the last half of 2005 has been a time of retrenching my little comic book factory.

 

Post Chicago Wizard has been spent getting two catalogs together, printed, mailed and responded to, as well as a growing web site at http://www.blbcomics.com now with some 12,000 pre 1980 comic books listed - and more are added every week thru constant updating as well as poking around boxes here i haven;t looked inside in years because i was out of town at the shows too much.

 

After moving out of Calif in 1994 following trying to rebuild after the flooding which destroyed my company's warehousei had built up since 1967 of a million comic books in 1986 (then located just 43 miles from the original Eclipse HQ , also destroyed in the same Federal Disaster Area),

 

Then there was the San Francisco Bay Area earthquake in 1989 destroying tourist trade for a spell even in the Haight Ashbury store i had owned in the neighborhood since 1976, and then the accidental death of Rick Griffin in 1991 freezing up in probate court for 6 years that last gallery I had then centered on Rick Griffin down in Fisherman's Wharf in The Cannery

 

i moved east and began doing many of the comicons on the circuit all over the country, but have had to cut way back to basicly zero since August's Chizago Wizard show.

 

Over the last decade my business grew again leaps and bounds and i found myself having to set up in a minimum 10x20 foot booth area, adding in a packed 5x8 trailor to loaded down van. Shows from NYC to Columbus to St Louis to Detroit to Chicago to Minneapplis Kansas City

to Dallas and points out west: San Fran, LA and San Diego. I'd be gone for quite a stretch of time each trip.

 

I did some math and figured out the weight the stuff I took to shows had grown to two tons per show. So, that's load it up, unload at the show, do the show, load it back up and then unload back at the ranch. Many of you guys know the drill -:)

 

Well, that was moving 8 tons in about a week times some 30 shows a year works out to something like 480,000 pounds a year times five years and here i had shlepped 2.4 million pounds around.

 

What? I ain't 23 any more? What happened in the past few decades?

You mean to tell me the body can start breaking?

 

Seems i have picked up some slight arthrtis coupled with a bone bur in my left hip joint and the doctor said to give it six months of no heavy lifting coupled with specific excersizes, some meds and more careful diet planning.

 

After almost 4 months, i am back to being able to lift on the way to normal again but i can to cancel out of shows in Baltimore, New York City's Big Apple, Columbus and elsewhere. Shows i had been doing regularly for many years -

 

I even had to fore go the Dallas Wizard event in November, knowing full well many OAF friends were planning on coming thru to hang with myself and Eric Groves where the plan had been to have ajoining booths there. I had set up at my first Dallas show back in 1968.

 

Well, fellows, i apologize for not being able to make it to quite a few shows since summer.

 

My plan is to try to set up at Wondercon and this NYC Comicon in Feb 2006. Booth space has been reserved. Healing process is progressing.

 

So, have been more at the home front, getting a couple comics catalogs out and building the web site at http://www.blbcomics.com, which is becoming more important to what i am doing now, and much more instantaneous getting my steady stream of new acquisitions out onto the marketplace.

 

This year i added a couple pages of Victorian and Platinum Age to the catalog as well as onto the web site. It is a growing area of comics collecting most collectors know very little about especially so because so much of it is truly rare, some with only one copy known to

have survived 150+ years.

 

I have been compiling the Victorian and Platinum Age essays and price indexes for the Overstreet since 1996. Up until recently i also spent a lot of time at state and university historical society holdings as well as stints researching at the Library of Congress.

 

I hav some 5000+ collectors getting my color catalogs in the mail. I figure the youngest person on that mailing list is 32. There appears to be neglible younger-in-years new comers into our hobby. I figure the comics collecting hobby will be solid for another 20 years. Then, the solid base core collecting the older material that is not CCG'd "investment high grade quality" will become more concerned about Metamucil than anything else.

 

Scans freely sent for the asking on anything any one wants to check out for purchase.
