rarest Modern Comic

50 posts in this topic

Albedo 0 yellow cover variant. 50 copies printed. I don't recall ever hearing of a rarer variant (unless we're going to start counting Oct vs. Nov copies of Marvel Comics #1 - and that wouldn't be modern, of course)

Huh, interesting (I don't know as much about books past 1990). Which Marvels would have been given this treatment?

And what the hell is a museum edition anyway? Better paper?

I'd agree - but it's a curious item of a well known character. You wonder how many sent out ended up with collectors, and how many with kids.

This "Rarest Modern" question is kind of a joke, as all of the ones mentioned were manufactured collectibles and are not comics in the true sense of the word. If someone makes 10 copies and sells them at $500 a shot, that's not a comic book IMHO.

Maybe some of the last issues of low-selling series or some end-run Star comics, etc. are the actual rarest comics. It would be interesting to know the real answer.

Just because there were 400 made doesn't mean that they are not rare...how many turn up on eBay? 1 every 2 months? How is "rare" defined in our comic collecting world? Availability? Those who are keeping them and not flipping them should factor into the "rarity" of the book? How many of these are on the CGC census? 4 or 5?

the Museums are not as rare IMO, because although there are 50 of them, they are priced/reserved so high that they keep getting relisted, thus making them available practically at any time.

Well the idea is that it's the rarest..we know there's a print run of 50 for museum eidtions..we know there's a print run of 400 for your book...even though not a lot of your book show up..that doesn't mean there's fewer copies which is sort of the point of this thread..which book has the lowest print run. And CI, although it's a manufactured collectible..that's not the question..it's which book is the rarest. smile.gif

Well, if we're not talking about actual comic books, then I believe some of those Franklin Mint-ish Museum Edition manufacturered collectibles are limited to 10 copies. They were also talking about doing a one-issue special print for each one, though I'm not sure those ever got to the open market.

So one of those Single-Issue Museum Edition pieces would definitely be the most rare comic-related publication.
