The Time Has Come - Undergrounds in Overstreet

9 posts in this topic

It boggles my mind how Overstreet can write about Zap #1 being a watershed book and not place it in the guide. The Underground comix market is almost completely a black hole. Jay Kennedy's Underground guide was published back in 1980's and since then only Weist's guide has addressed these books but it is far from complete.

I know it's a complicated issue. Many books (especially the Crumb ones) have had a bazillion printings -- most are still in print even now -- but enough is enough.

There needs to be some definitive list of prices and how to tell the difference between the printings and the Overstreet people have the resources to do it.

I understand that the material can be almost out and out porn at times but if they can list Penthouse comics, why not Freak Brothers, Cherry & Binky Brown?

I agree that some undergrounds should be in the Overstreet Guide. The important titles like Zap, Freak Brothers, etc.(and of course my appearances in Big [!@#%^&^] #1 & #2). deserve to be listed along with some printing and pricing information. You are right that it makes no sense that the Overstreet guide should ignore this segment of the comic market. Some board members are Overstreet advisors and I would like to hear their comments on this issue.

But the question is? Why can't Overstreet put them in the Price Guide? It is considered the "Bible" of comic collecting....
