Beware - eBay phishing scam

6 posts in this topic

I've gotten two bogus emails recently from "member@ebay.com" that look pretty darn real -- full of eBay graphics and no stupid grammar/spelling errors. It almost fooled me the first time.

The email's purpose seems innocent. It seems to be someone asking you a question about an item, such as "do you take paypal" or "how much is shipping."

And, right next to the question is a handy box for "Respond to this question."

But if you click it, you get taken to an eBay login screen (that is bogus but looks real) where the f***s are hoping to harvest your ID and password.

Be careful, it's a cruel world out there.

Ah, and now to read my fortune. "Geese can be troublesome."

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

I get emails like that to my gmail account.

Except gmail is not the account I have registerd with ebay

I havent seen this one before. I have gotten plenty of the 2nd chance offer emails when I am an underbidder on a book. The sender of the email attempts to coax you into giving them personal information and attempts to have you send them funds outside of ebay claiming they are the original ebay seller.

I literally got 9 bogus emails in a 7 day period recently from scams appearing to be eBay or Paypal. I report them, but it seems as though nothing is actually being done about them. 2 of them came to my email account that is not even my eBay account, but the others were sent to my eBay email account.

This is getting to be such a headache as it's almost everyday that I recieve these phished emails.
