Did go to the LA Monthly last Saturday...

6 posts in this topic

Was late - got caught in the traffic jam on the 101S trying to get to the 110 that takes to the Shrine...

Billy Mumy, the featured guest( from the 1960's LOST IN SPACE ), was not there - had left already;

The worst Monthly Con ever. Absolutely no selection of Silver Age to try to scarf up.

Some of the vendors were already packing - this was at 3 pm with 2 hours to go!

Did get to meet in person Mr. Harley Yee - he had about the best ASM's I had seen in a while. Very nice and professional. He won me over big time and he was geniuine and sincere.

I sure would like to start trying the LA Monthly Con again - but I see no reason to. The last few times I did this I have been disappointed. And NO IMSM's to get - not even lower grade!

I'm close by in Orange County, and I haven't been to the LA show since Arnold was there promoting "Last Action Hero". I think that was 1993. I still have the Batman #151 that I bought that day.

Even back then, Harley was the only real reason to show up.

The only dealer that regularly attends is Terry. There is just not enough comic dealers there to make it worthwhile. Most of the dealers appear to be flea market vendors, hawking used toys, bootleg videos, and porn.

It's funny, but last weeks was the first Shrine show I attended in maybe 5-6 years. And I live only 15-20 minutes away. Oddest thing was that the lights weren't working in the Shrine, so all dealers had these portable lights thet were using. Really hard to see the books you were buying. I'm actually glad to hear that it was one of the "worst" shows; hopefully the others are better.
