Green arrow, hawkman and martian manhunter...

i've never been much of a DC fan/reader, but always liked for ex: green arrow, hawkman and martian manhunter.

could someone tell me a little bit about these characters and the best reading tpb's avaiable?

 

also seeing the "this week in your coll." thread those gorgeous covers of enemy ace made me wonder about this character too...are there tpb's avaiable about him?

Get the silver age Hawkman archives vol 1. Can't beat the Kubert art. For Martian Manhunter, I would suggest the Ostrander/Mandrake series that came out a few years ago. It ran for about 2 years and you can most likely pick it up in the 50 cent bins. Green Arrow sucks in general, but you can pick up the Adams/O'Neil run on Green Lantern w/ Green Arrow. It's been reprinted dozens of times. If you like Jack Kirby, there is a golden age Green Arrow TBP. I picked it up a few years ago, but never got around to reading it.

Re: Green Arrow. I think the TPB Tom is thinking of reprints the Kirby run from the late 1950s. It's a period piece, more a historical curiosity than a really good read. GA hasn't always sucked. In addition to the Adams GL/GA, there was the early Mike Grell art in the back of Action Comics in the 430s-450s that can be picked up for cheap on eBay-- no TPB that I'm aware of. More recently, the current GA series was re-launched with a much-hyped run written by Kevin Smith, and followed up by a pre-Identity Crisis run by Brad Meltzer. That takes you up to about #20, when I dropped the book.
