What's the white spot at the center of the spine BC? Is the lower staple a bit rusty, or is that just ink bleed? And is that a 3/8" crease to the LRFC? Thanks.

Can't tell what the area on the back is. At first I thought it might be a spot of waterstain, but it doesn't feel any different than the rest of the book. No rust on the staples. The LRFC I would call a bend rather than a crease - non color breaking. There are also two very small color flecks at the top of the front cover. VF?

Bought it as a VF/NM and have been going back and forth between an 8.5 and 9.0 myself. Too nice overall to be an 8.0 IMHO.

Still hard to tell from the scan, but it's just a dark staple - no rust.

 

Still turned out to be an okay eBay story. Paid full guide for it as a VF/NM and when I told the seller about my concerns he volunteered to refund over 1/3 of the price and promptly did so via PayPal.

 

Almost makes up for several other sour deals... ("I've sent hundreds like that and had no complaints...")
